Pomona, Calif. -- Blake Alexander is ready to make some noise in Larry Miersch's Exide Technologies-sponsored Top Alcohol Dragster this weekend. He will be competing at the final NHRA race of the 2011 season, the Auto Club NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona. After a safety device ended his weekend in Las Vegas, Blake is anticipating better results.
"Incrementally we were going to qualify until the NHRA-mandated safety system shut off the car at 1,000 feet. A few other people didn't qualify or qualify as well as they wanted because of this same issue. It's just how it goes sometimes," said Alexander. "I'm looking to have a solid final outing in the Exide car and to put on a good show. My goal is to first get in the show, then win first round and go from there."
The 2011 season has been a season of firsts for the 23 year-old college student.
"First I got my feet wet in the alcohol car and eventually the Fuel Funny Car later in the year. Larry Miersch, owner of the Top Alcohol Dragster, and Paul Smith, owner of the Funny Car, both gave me a tremendous opportunity in letting me drive their cars. I learned a lot and I'm looking forward to putting that knowledge to good use in 2012." Blake continued.
