No stranger to life in the fast lane,
Megan Meyer grew up around the sport of drag racing; she is the oldest daughter
of NHRA and AHRA World Champion driver and team owner, Randy Meyer. An
accomplished drag racer herself, Megan has decided to move up to the Top
Alcohol Dragster ranks and begin training to pilot her father’s race car.
Megan Meyer, a Kansas resident and full
time graphic design student at Pittsburg State University, began her racing
career in 2004 at just 10 years of age, where she was given the opportunity to
get behind the wheel of a Junior Dragster. After being in the Junior Drag
Racing League for eight years, Megan gained 16 wins, 13 runner-up finishes, and
14 semi-finalist finishes along with two track championships. Looking to expand
her passion for racing, she stepped up to driving a Mullis Super Comp Dragster
in 2010. While racing both a Junior Dragster and Super Comp Dragster for two
years, Megan made the most of her drag racing career and took the challenge
head on.
Megan hopes to continue racing in the
Super Comp class but is more interested in becoming the pilot of the Randy
Meyer Racing Team’s Top Alcohol Dragster. “Driving my dad’s car has always been
a dream of mine,” Megan says. “I always knew I would get the chance someday to
drive the car, and I was ecstatic when we finally had the talk to start training.
I have learned so much from my dad. I hope I can be as good a driver as he is.”
A highly respected member of the NHRA
Drag Racing family, Randy Meyer has had a successful career spanning over 30
years of racing as driver, team owner, and crew chief in AHRA Pro-Comp, IHRA
Top Fuel, and NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster. While tuning the race car, Randy made
history in the NHRA with his Top Alcohol Dragster becoming the first to run in
the teens with a solid 5.13 et pass in 2002, with Gary Ormbsy Jr. as the driver. Additionally, Randy won a World Championship
in 2003 with Alan Bradshaw driving the car, cementing the Meyer name as a force
in the Top Alcohol ranks. Randy conducts himself and his family, the team, and
the race cars with the utmost dedication, focus, and hard work that is required
to be successful in the business world and on the race track.
Other drivers of the Randy Meyer Racing
Top Alcohol Dragster include Kate and Diana Harker, Shayne Lawson, and Dan
Kracht. Randy Meyer offers drivers the opportunity to test their skills in the
Top Alcohol Dragster Class behind the wheel of his 3000 horse-power, Injected
Nitro Burning A/Fuel Dragster, while providing one of the safest, fastest, and
most competitive race operations for lease. Working one-on-one with drivers,
Randy personally ensures that every driver is competent in the skills and
knowledge needed to get behind the wheel of his 270 mph dragster before taking
it down the track.
Megan Meyer began her training of the
Nitro-Injected Dragster over her spring break at Auto-Plus Raceway in
Gainesville, Florida. She took over the driving duties with no hesitations as
she made three passes and went no further than 300 feet, or 2.5 seconds, on the
throttle. Idol Alexis DeJoria, driver of the Tequila Patron Nitro Funny Car,
signed off on Megan’s mid-track passes to count towards a Top Alcohol Dragster
license. Megan plans on continuing her training this year and finish up her
licensing later on in the season.
Nineteen-year-old Megan Meyer and the
Randy Meyer Racing Team are currently looking for marketing partners as she
makes the transition from Super Comp Dragster to Top Alcohol Dragster. The team
is looking to race a full schedule, with Megan Meyer driving the Top Alcohol
Dragster, when the right partnership is achieved.
