Norwalk, OH – Randy Meyer concluded his
three week tour in Norwalk, Ohio for the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals at
Summit Motorsports Park on July 5-7.
The Randy Meyer Racing Team was only
able to run two qualifying sessions as rain canceled the third session Friday
night. With a best elapsed time of 5.42 at 262 mph, Meyer claimed the sixth
spot out of 22 cars that competed for the 16 qualified field. He was paired up
against opponent Rich McPhillips, the number four qualifier, for first round of
eliminations.
Meyer lost against McPhillips at this
race last year, but this time was a different story. Meyer was ahead of
McPhillips for the entire race, and won with a 5.44 et at 260 mph against
McPhillips 5.52 et at 258 mph. Meyer went on to race Brandon Booher for the
first time in eliminations. Booher, the number three qualifier, had the
starting line advantage and never looked back as he crossed the finish line
first with a 5.40 et at 269 mph to Meyer’s 5.42 et at 262 mph.
“After a disappointing outing in
Chicago, we had a much better outing in Norwalk,” said Meyer. “Qualifying
number six and advancing a couple rounds to lose a close race was positive for
us, and having the fastest A/Fuel car on race day was encouraging. We will use
the break we have to regroup and get ready for a lengthy second half of the
season with hopes of continuing improvement for the team.”
Megan Meyer, the oldest daughter of
Randy Meyer, planned to pilot the team’s Top Alcohol Dragster for the third
time on Monday after the race, but was unable to as the track crew decided to
close the track after a long week of preparing for this race.
The Randy Meyer Racing Team will take a
few weeks off from racing to relax and gather their data before their seven
straight races beginning with the NHRA National event in Brainerd, Minnesota on
August 15-18.
This race will air on ESPN2 on 7/13/2013
