Champion Spark Plugs and Michalek Brothers Racing Renew Partnership for Fifth Consecutive Year

Courtesy of Michalek Brothers Racing

Michalek Brothers Racing (MBR) is excited to announce a continued partnership with Federal-Mogul Motorparts’ (NASDAQ: FDML) Champion® Spark Plugs brand for the 2016 race season. The upcoming season marks a significant milestone as MBR and Champion move into the fifth year of a successful partnership. 2016 will be MBR’s most ambitious season on track as the team prepares to debut its own NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster within the NHRA’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.

“Champion has been there every step of the way as we have chased our racing dreams; we are humbled and thankful for all that Champion has done and continues to do for our racing careers,” said Kyle. “Developing our working relationship with Champion, Fel-Pro, Sealed Power, and Speed-Pro over the past 5 years has been a very rewarding experience and we are very proud to have the continued support of these great brands. 2016 is shaping up to be a big year for both MBR and the Federal Mogul motorparts brands, and we are very excited to represent each of these brands on and off the track as we take the next step in our racing careers as car owners. This progress would not possible without the ongoing support of the Federal Mogul Motorparts brands.”

The “Performance Driven” motto of Champion Spark Plugs continues to hold true both on and off the track as the brand leads the way with first-class digital initiatives for aspiring racers and everyday gear heads. Champion’s industry-leading Search for a Champion contest is back for its fifth straight year and is upping the ante with over $200,000 of cash prizes for racing sponsorships up for grabs. Champion is also excited to introduce the Parts Matter sweepstakes highlighting the shortcomings of inferior replacement parts. Getting involved is simple: submit photo or video of car-fails that didn’t have to happen on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Tumblr by using the hashtag #PartsMatter #Entry. Photo submissions will be entered for a chance to win one of three $100 weekly prizes or a $500 monthly grand prize. Fans can now also wear what the drivers wear by purchasing official Champion gear on the brand’s online store.

"As we continue to make progress each year towards reaching our ultimate goal, it's an honor to have consistent support from some of the most recognized and respected brands in the industry," said Corey. "We continually strive to perform as well off the track for our partners as we do on the track, and to extend this relationship for a fifth consecutive year speaks to how mutually beneficial this partnership has been since day one. I can't emphasize enough how fortunate we are to be partnered with Champion, Fel-Pro, Sealed Power, and Speed-Pro, but I can tell you that we will continue to go above and beyond to be the best brand ambassadors that we can be."

MBR and Dreher Motorsports Looking to go to Work Over Holiday Weekend at Norwalk

The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) rolls into the Buckeye State this weekend for its annual stop in Norwalk, Ohio. Michalek Brothers Racing (MBR) and Dreher Motorsports will join forces once again to field an entry in the ultra-competitive Top Alcohol Dragster class at the 9th running of the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals.

With the drag racing world shifting its attention to northwest Ohio for the holiday weekend, MBR driver Corey Michalek looks ahead to getting back on track after being idle behind the wheel since early March.

“Anxious is probably the most appropriate term,” said Corey. “It’s been a long 4 months of being out of the driver’s seat since Charlotte. As a part time driver running a limited schedule, there is so much emphasis put on every opportunity that you get to stand on the gas, and it’s a challenge to get into any type of rhythm with such long gaps in between races. The main objective for me coming into the weekend is to show up mentally in midseason form the way Kyle did in Houston.”

Norwalk marks the second consecutive race of the season that MBR will pull up to the starting line with primary sponsorship from the Kenan Advantage Group (KAG). MBR states its goals for the weekend are simple: perform well on track, and just as important, help KAG find qualified applicants to join its team. KAG will have a full staff on site in Nitro Alley to engage and interact with prospective employees. Any current CDL holder or mechanic is encouraged to stop by the KAG booth to learn more about job opportunities and for a shot to win a free iPad mini. Additional details can be found at THEKAG.COM/RACE.

With additional backing from Champion Spark Plugs, Fel-Pro, Speed Pro, Sealed Power, and GoPro cameras, MBR and Dreher Motorsports will go toe-to-toe with a field of more than 20 of the country’s best Top Alcohol Dragster teams for the third straight year. Focused on the weekend, Corey reflects on his brief 3-race career piloting a 3,500 horsepower A/fuel dragster.

“Since the 2014 Four-Wide Nationals in Charlotte, it’s been a humbling experience for me behind the wheel. We have been fortunate enough to be able to come out and make a bunch of A-to-B runs and get the car qualified into a couple of stacked fields, which is a victory in itself, but we’ve run into a string of really tough luck going into eliminations the past two times that I’ve driven,” said Corey. “I know the Drehers are ready to throw down this weekend and I’ve been training since the Monday after Charlotte to be fully prepared for any situation that we may face on track so we can be contenders come Sunday. I’m ready to drop the visor and go to work.”

The team kicks off its weekend this Friday with 2 qualifying runs at 12:00PM and 3:00PM. Action resumes on Saturday afternoon when the KAG A/fuel dragster makes its third and final qualifying pass at 12:00PM, followed shortly after by the first round of eliminations at 3:00PM. The 8 remaining Top Alcohol Dragsters will then square off for the final 3 rounds of eliminations with a Wally on the line Sunday at 12:15PM, 2:25PM, and 3:40PM.

“It’s 4th of July weekend at the Bader’s house and we can’t wait to get the KAG A/fuel dragster on track in front of a packed house at Summit Motorsports Park,” said Corey. “This is MBR’s home track and we count down the days each year until we get the opportunity to come back. Fireworks, $1/lb ice cream, and nitro…it doesn’t get any better than this!”

Michalek Brothers Racing Bows Out Early at NHRA Four-Wide Nationals

Michalek Brothers Racing opened their 2015 NHRA campaign this past weekend at the 8th Annual NHRA Four-Wide Nationals in Charlotte, North Carolina. Driving the Dreher Motorsports A/fuel dragster, Corey Michalek came into the event with his sights set on defending his event title from the previous year.

After having all racing action cancelled on Friday due to persistent rain showers, the team faced unseasonably cool conditions on an action-packed Saturday that included two qualifying runs and the opening round of eliminations. MBR was in the first pair of Top Alcohol Dragsters on track and set the early pace with a 5.357 second lap at 266.11MPH; good enough to land them the #9 qualifying position after the first qualifying session.

The second round of qualifying started strong when the Champion Spark Plugs A/fueler launched hard with a .938 60′ time but dropped a cylinder soon after and covered the quarter-mile in 5.420 seconds at 258.86MPH to enter eliminations in the #10 position, setting up a matchup with Wayne Morris. Upon firing the car in the round of 16, the crew noticed a mechanical issue with the team’s 3,500 horsepower nitro-burning motor and ordered Corey to shut it down, causing the team’s weekend to come to an abrupt halt.

“The most sobering part about that outcome was getting out of the car knowing that after waiting 8 months to race again and then making just two runs, I was done for the weekend already,” said Corey. “It’s a tough pill to swallow knowing now there is another 3 month gap until I get back in the car again and that will already be my final race of the year. Running an extremely abbreviated schedule forces us to put an incredible amount of emphasis on every single opportunity that we get to strap into the car.”

Michalek then looked ahead as the team prepares for its two remaining events.

“At the end of the day, I’m very thankful for the opportunity that I have to be able to compete in this class. The car that I get to drive is a consistent winner, the team that we partner with is among the best in the business, and the facilities that we get to participate at are world class. I relentlessly prepared for Charlotte all off-season long, but we caught a bad break and it cost us our shot at defending our title. But as the saying goes, ‘Yesterday is gone, today is up for grabs,’ so it’s time to get back to work and zone in on Houston and Norwalk.”

MBR returns to action April 24-26 in Houston, Texas with Kyle Michalek behind the wheel for the 28th annual NHRA Spring Nationals. This event marks the first time that MBR will compete in Houston and is the first of two races that The Kenan Advantage Group will serves as the team’s primary sponsor in 2015.

Michalek Brothers Racing & Champion Spark Plugs Renew Partnership for Fourth Consecutive Year

Courtesy of Michalek Brothers Racing
Photos courtesy of David Smith

Michalek Brothers Racing (MBR) is excited to announce a continued partnership with Federal-Mogul Motorparts’ (NASDAQ: FDML) Champion® Spark Plugs brand for the 2015 race season. Kyle and Corey Michalek won the brand’s inaugural “Search for a Champion” contest in 2012 and have since carried the iconic Champion bowtie branding across the country on the sides of a 270MPH A/fuel dragster. In 2015, MBR and four Federal-Mogul Motorparts brands will once again collaborate to compete within the NHRA’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.

The “Performance Driven” motto of Champion Spark Plugs holds true both on and off the track as the brand continues to lead the way with first-class digital initiatives for aspiring racers and everyday gear heads. Champion’s industry-leading Search for a Champion contest is back for its fourth straight year to award $125,000 in racing sponsorships, and to add fifteen new members to an already stacked #TeamChampion roster. The King of the Road contest’s third edition kicks off in the Spring of 2015 and Champion will award $10,000 in prizes to the best street-legal rides across the country. Fans can now also wear what the drivers wear by purchasing official Champion gear on the brand’s all new online store.

“We are very proud to continue our relationship with Champion, Fel-Pro, Speed-Pro, and Sealed Power as we head into year four of our successful partnership,” said Kyle. “Knowing we have the backing and support of Federal Mogul and #TeamChampion both on and off the track gives us a lot of confidence.”

The 2014 racing season was “Performance Driven” from start to finish with MBR spreading the word about the brand’s Search for a Champion and King of the Road initiatives in front of crowds exceeding 45,000 fans per day at two NHRA Mello Yello Series national events and the premiere Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series race in the country. The team also raced the Champion Spark Plugs dragster to an event win in front of a national audience on ESPN2 at the 5th Annual NHRA Four-Wide Nationals in Charlotte, North Carolina.

“It was so gratifying to be able to take the Champion Spark Plugs paint scheme all the way to the winner’s circle in Charlotte,” said Corey. “The victory marked one of the biggest milestones in our continuously prospering relationship with the brand. It was so great being able to promote the Champion, Fel-Pro, Speed-Pro, and Sealed Power brands and to recognize all the support they have given us over the past 3 years on a national stage.”

With the 2014 season in the rearview mirror, Michalek Brothers Racing and Champion Spark Plugs have their sights set on another strong campaign in 2015. MBR is currently finalizing plans for events in both the NHRA Mello Yello Series and Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series tours. MBR and Champion will continue to capitalize on the success of the duo’s social media engagements and at-track promotions.

Corey Michalek Qualifies the KAG A/Fuel Dragster into Stout Norwalk Field

The MBR/Dreher Motorsports A/fuel dragster entry sponsored by the Kenan Advantage Group (KAG) and Champion Spark Plugs qualified #11 amongst a field of 21 of the nation’s premier Top Alcohol Dragster drivers at the 8th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, OH. Taking place over the course of a picture-perfect 4th of July weekend, this was the team’s third NHRA national event appearance as competitors; all of which MBR has successfully made the qualifying field.

Rookie driver Corey Michalek returned to the seat for the second time this year, and the team started the weekend out with a strong 5.455 second elapsed time at 262.03mph during Q1. During the second round of qualifying, the team had an aborted run due to tire shake and ended day 1 in the #10 qualifying spot. The 3,500 horsepower KAG A/fueler took the track one last time early Saturday afternoon and improved on its initial qualifying time by running a 5.445 second lap at 257.73mph to secure the #11 spot in the ladder. Unfortunately, during the process, parts attrition took its toll and MBR’s weekend came to an end before contesting the first round of eliminations.

Fresh off his second event of NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster competition, rookie driver Corey Michalek evaluated the team’s performance.

“Obviously we want to do well every time we show up at the track,” said Corey. “There is definitely a sense frustration when we don’t do well because Kyle and I have such an intense desire to win, just like our teammates, Randy and Jared Dreher. But we’re also realistic because we have been around the sport long enough to fully understand that sometimes there is only so much that is in our control. When you put nitro inside of a race car, parts are going to malfunction and weekends like this are going to happen, unfortunately.”

Michalek wasn’t totally down on the final outcome of the weekend, however.

“On the positive side, though, we persevered enough to rise above the mechanical issues in order to solidly qualify the KAG / Dreher Motorsports A/fuel dragster in the #11 spot. Considering the competition that was on the property, and the fact that the current national points leader was unable to make the show, that was quite the accomplishment.”

The 8th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals also marked the first time that the younger Michalek had piloted a race car down the esteemed Norwalk racing surface. Corey happily recalled his experience of finally getting an opportunity to race at his home track in front of a capacity crowd filled with friends and family.

“Turning the corner in front of the huge Summit Motorsports Park grandstands for the first time was an awesome moment. After standing along those fences for years, to moving behind the car on the starting line as a crew member, it was great to finally be in the position to make a lap down the Norwalk quarter-mile,” said Corey. “Having a huge contingent of family, friends, and MBR supporters on-hand in the stands and in the pits all weekend long was the icing on the cake. Kyle and I are beyond grateful to have the backing of such an awesome support system.”

With 2014’s three scheduled races in the books, Michalek Brothers Racing now shifts their focus to next season and beyond.

“Each year MBR strives to move forward and 2014 has been a year of great progress,” said Kyle. “With the addition of KAG to our team, and the continued support of Champion, Fel-Pro, Sealed Power, and Speed Pro we were able to bring home a National Event win at the Charlotte NHRA Four Wide Nationals. This provides momentum and inspiration to continue building our program so we can increase our participation within the class. We’re confident our team has a lot to offer both on and off the track. We will take the next couple months off to focus on building relationships with current and future business partners, and look to come back strong in 2015. But, if an opportunity comes up to hit the track again this year we won’t think twice about it!”

Corey Michalek to make Summit Motorsports Park competition debut amid stacked field

It has only been 44 days since Michalek Brothers Racing pulled off the Summit Motorsports Park property at the conclusion of the 8th annual Mickey Mart Rewards Cavalcade of Stars race, but for brothers and teammates Kyle and Corey Michalek, it feels more like 44 years. The wait, however, comes to an end this weekend as the team, partnered with Dreher Motorsports, returns to Norwalk, Ohio alongside 24 of the best Top Alcohol Dragsters in the country to vie for the coveted Wally that is up for grabs at the 8th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals.

MBR returns to Norwalk for the second time in 2014, this time with Corey getting behind the wheel, in the midst of an already eventful campaign. The team started the 2014 racing season strong at the 5th annual NHRA 4-Wide Nationals in Charlotte, North Carolina. With Randy and Jared Dreher making the tuneup calls, the Champion Spark Plugs/Dreher Motorsports A/fuel dragster took home the wally in Corey's national event debut.

“Charlotte was a dream weekend for us; there’s no getting around that," said Corey. "The Drehers worked their tails off to provide us with a race car that was capable of going the distance and we were fortunate to catch a few breaks along the way."

The younger Michalek, looking ahead to his second race in NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster competition, was quick to halt the trip down memory lane.

"Charlotte is in the past now and what we did at that race has zero bearing on what’s going to happen this weekend, as the regional race proved. My goal for this race is first and foremost to qualify. I know that sounds very underwhelming after winning in Charlotte, but with the 24 other cars that will be in attendance, this is going to be one of the toughest fields to qualify for all year. We want to have one of the 16 quickest cars come 1 o'clock on Saturday afternoon and then we’ll re-direct our approach from there.”

"On top of that, I really want to make as many runs as possible just to develop into a better driver. At this point I would say that I'm still going for a ride and trying to play catch up each time down the track rather than being ahead of the car and driving it. I cringe re-watching some of the Charlotte runs because I know I need to be so much better at so many aspects of the driving process."

Michalek Brothers Racing will once again rocket down the Norwalk quarter-mile carrying primary sponsorship from the Kenan Advantage Group (KAG) to actively recruit new mechanics and CDL truck drivers. More information about great nationwide job opportunities with the KAG team can be found by browsing and applying for available positions here (https://intelliapp2.driverapponline....?r=raceRacecar). Longtime MBR supporters, Champion Spark Plugs, Sealed Power, Speed Pro, and Fel-Pro, will also be featured on the Dreher Motorsports A/fueler as Corey makes his maiden voyage down the track at which he attended his first drag race.

“Even though I live in New York now, I still consider Summit Motorsports Park to be my home track. It’s the first drag strip that I ever visited as a fan and I’ve been there for more races than any other facility on tour, but this weekend will be the first time that I’ve driven there. I’m really excited to finally have the opportunity to compete in front of our friends and family at the same place where it all began for me.”

Fans attending the event will be treated to non-stop action all weekend long as "America's Racetrack" celebrates the baddest race cars on the planet with $1/lb ice cream and the Bader family's signature fireworks show. MBR hits the track twice on Friday to kick off the weekend with runs at 12:00PM and 3:00PM. The team returns for their third and final qualifying pass at 12:00PM on Saturday with the first round of eliminations following soon after at 3:00PM. The eight remaining Top Alcohol Dragsters will then battle it out for the Wally with the final three rounds of eliminations taking place on Sunday at 12:15PM, 2:25PM, and 3:40PM.

"It's well known that whenever you come to Norwalk it's going to be a great time, said Kyle. This coming weekend will be extra special with the 4th of July celebration. What is more patriotic than side by side racing at over 270 MPH, and nitro burning engines pushing out over 3,500 horsepower; all capped off with a Bader family fireworks show?! We're looking forward to running hard and having a great time!"

Michalek Brothers Racing and Kenan Advantage Group Gearing up for Norwalk

Courtesy of Michalek Brothers Racing

Kyle Michalek returns to site of runner-up A/Fuel Dragster debut

Just under one year ago, Kyle Michalek quickly found success in the 270 mph Top Alcohol Dragster class during the team’s debut event at the 2013 Mickey Mart Rewards Cavalcade of Stars NHRA Lucas Oil regional event at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, OH. The team’s runner-up finish validated the partnership between Michalek Brothers Racing (MBR) and Dreher Motorsports as a legitimate contender.

“The runner-up finish during our debut event was both exciting and unexpected,” said Kyle. “Following my runner-up last year and Corey’s win last month at the Charlotte Four-Wide nationals, second place just won’t cut it anymore; we know we have what it takes to get the win.”

The team comes in to this year’s event on a high-note following Corey Michalek’s win at the Charlotte Four-Wide nationals and team partner Dreher Motorsport’s runner-up finish at the NHRA Lucas Oil regional event in Indianapolis two weeks ago. Highlighting the team’s return to competition at Summit Motorsports Park is the newly established partnership between MBR and the Kenan Advantage Group (KAG) as the team’s primary sponsor.

“KAG’s corporate headquarters are only 20 minutes from MBR; it’s very special to be partnered with a local organization that is extremely successful on a national level,” said Kyle. “We are excited to introduce NHRA fans to the great career opportunities available at KAG as a truck driver or mechanic. We plan to use the KAG dragster as a 270mph recruiting billboard.”

KAG is North America’s largest tank truck transporter with more than 9,000 employees, and has the ability to deliver within the continental U.S., Canada, and Mexico. KAG is experiencing strong growth, and is actively seeking commercial truck drivers including company drivers and owner-operators, mechanics, and tank washers to join their growing team, and has partnered with MBR to help recruit new employees. Job opportunities are available nationally, and KAG currently has open positions in 44 states. Please visit the KAG website (https://intelliapp2.driverapponline....enan_445714539) for a full list of available positions or call 877-947-1013. While filling out the online application, be sure to note “Race Car” under the “How did you hear about us?” drop down box and reference Michalek Brothers Racing as the referral source.

2014 marks MBR’s 10th year participating in drag racing competition. Kyle made his first passes in a “legitimate” race car in 2004 down Norwalk’s storied quarter-mile, and returns 10 years later to take on the world’s best semi-professional drivers.

“Norwalk is where I started my driving career 10 years ago; our team has come a long way since that fateful first pass in my Super Pro dragster when I thought I was going to get sick from nervousness in the staging lanes,” said Kyle. “I am very excited to get back in the car after a long break, and always look forward to racing at Norwalk with the hometown support of family and friends. This year will be no different; we plan to have a very strong MBR cheering section that will be supplemented with KAG employees coming out to the track to cheer on the home team. We look forward to hosting KAG, and having the opportunity to show their employees a good time at the races.”

The 8th annual Mickey Mart Rewards Cavalcade of Stars kicks off an action-packed weekend of racing on Friday, May 16 at Summit Motorsports Park with pre-race ceremonies and driver introductions at 6:00 followed by the first round of qualifying at 6:30. The action kicks up a notch on Saturday, the day most notably known for record-breaking crowds of nearly 50,000 fans, with pre-race ceremonies and driver introductions at 3:30, round two of qualifying at 4:00, and the third and final qualifying run under the lights at 7:00. Both Friday and Saturday night will be capped off with the Bader family’s signature firework shows. Final eliminations get underway on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 with the event coming to a close at 5:30. Admission is $20 per day or $50 for the full event.

“This is the premier regional event on the NHRA tour, and it’s a date that we have had circled on our calendar since last May,” said Corey. “The facility is top notch, the fans pack the place wall-to-wall, and some of the best racers in the country will be there putting on a side-by-side show of racing at speeds in excess of 270MPH. Simply put, it’s going to be awesome. We can’t get the KAG car on the track soon enough!”

TAN Driver Blog - Corey and Kyle Michalek

Hi everyone and welcome to our first blog entry. We are honored that TAN asked us to create a blog for the 2014 season. We hope you enjoy following our progress both on and off the track.

The fun never ends at MBR, and our off-season has been busy to say the least. Kyle has completed his master's degree program at Malone University, and Corey has been working hard on our new website (www.michalekbrothersracing.com). Check out the new pages and be sure to "Like” Michalek Brothers Racing on Facebook and follow @MichalekRacing on Twitter to stay in the loop regarding MBR contests and merchandise giveaways. We will be giving away FREE Champion t-shirts once we hit 500 "Likes" on Facebook.

On the racing front, we sold our Super Comp dragster to a family in Australia (we never would have guessed it would end up going to the other side of the world)! That sale helped free up some funds, but since we spend money just as fast as it comes in, both of us have been working hard on sponsorship and marketing initiatives. We are very proud to have renewed our partnership for the 3rd straight year with Champion, Fel-Pro, Speed-Pro, and Sealed Power. We could not participate at this level without their generous support.

Earlier this week we announced the Kenan Advantage Group (KAG) will join MBR as a new partner during the 2014 season. KAG will be our primary sponsor for the Norwalk regional event in May, and we are very excited about the partnership possibilities. KAG hopes to tap into the diverse NHRA fan base to recruit new employees for their growing business. We look forward to spreading the word about truck driving, mechanic, and tank washing career opportunities with KAG throughout the United States. You can browse and apply for available positions here (https://intelliapp2.driverapponline.com/c/kenan?r=raceRacecar).

On track, we have a lot to be excited about in 2014. Our schedule currently contains three races and we'll kick things off this weekend at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals in Charlotte, North Carolina. This event will mark Corey's debut in Top Alcohol Dragster competition. Kyle will return to the seat at our next stop in May for the Norwalk regional event where we hope to take care of some unfinished business from last year's runner-up finish. We will also be competing at the Norwalk national event in July. Our race efforts will once again be in conjunction with Dreher Motorsports who will supply the power and know how to help get us to the winner's circle.

We’ll be back soon with a recap from Charlotte and Corey’s thoughts on his first race. Nitro or nothin’.

Michalek Brothers Racing (MBR) is extremely pleased to announce a partnership agreement with the Kenan Advantage Group, Inc. (KAG). KAG will support MBR during the 2014 season and will serve as the team’s primary sponsor during the 8th Annual Mickey Mart Rewards Cavalcade of Stars NHRA Lucas Oil regional event at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, OH May 16-18.

“It is an honor to be partnered with an industry leading organization such as KAG,” said Kyle. “We are looking forward to introducing KAG to NHRA drag racing and, more importantly, introducing race fans to the exciting job opportunities available at KAG.”

KAG is actively seeking commercial truck drivers including company drivers and owner-operators, mechanics, and tank washers to join their growing team, and has partnered with MBR to help recruit new employees.

“There is a huge number of racing fans in the logistics and transportation industry, specifically commercial truck drivers and mechanics”, said Kyle. “KAG is experiencing strong growth, and has many positions that need to be filled; we plan to help by spreading the good news about job opportunities with KAG to the racing community.”

Job opportunities are available nationally and KAG currently has open positions in 44 states. Please visit https://intelliapp2.driverapponline.com/c/kenan?r=raceRacecar&uri_b=ia_kenan_663979594 for a full list of available positions or call 877-947-1013.

While filling out the online application, be sure to note “Race Car” under the "How did you hear about us?" drop down box and reference Michalek Brothers Racing as the referral source.

“KAG’s corporate headquarters are 20 minutes from MBR’s home base and we are very proud to have them come on board as a primary sponsor at our home track,” said Corey. “We see their shiny, polished KAG tanker trailers all the time when we are driving to and from races; it’s even more exciting knowing that we are now a small part of their team.”

Look for a KAG tractor trailer on Nitro Alley during the Norwalk regional event. KAG team members will be on-site to answer questions and help prospective employees fill out job applications.

The Kenan Advantage Group is based in North Canton, OH and is North America’s largest tank truck transporter and logistics provider, delivering fuel, chemicals, industrial gases, and food-grade products. Michalek Brothers Racing Storms into 2014

Corey Michalek eyes rookie debut in 270 MPH A/Fuel Dragster

Michalek Brothers Racing’s (MBR) 2013 season behind the wheel of the Dreher Motorsports A/fuel dragster, albeit brief, was one to remember. Coming out of nowhere, then rookie driver Kyle Michalek qualified #2 and finished runner-up at the team’s very first NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event in an A/fuel dragster; the NHRA’s fastest form of semi-professional competition. Fast forward to July and Kyle went on to make a splash in MBR’s NHRA national event debut by successfully qualifying for the field of 16 and gaining the team’s first national exposure on the ESPN2 race broadcast. The season wrapped up with test sessions in August and October at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis when Corey Michalek upgraded his competition license to A/fuel, and closed out 2013 with a 5.55 second blast at over 261mph to set himself up for a 2014 debut.

MBR kicks off its 2014 campaign in two short weeks at Bruton Smith’s “Bellagio of Dragstrips,” ZMAX Dragway, in Charlotte, North Carolina at the 5th Annual NHRA Four-Wide Nationals April 11-13. This event marks the rookie competition debut for MBR driver Corey Michalek behind the wheel of a 270MPH A/fuel dragster. Just over one month later MBR will head back to their home track, Summit Motorsports Park, in Norwalk, Ohio where Kyle Michalek hopes to avenge his 2013 runner-up finish at the 8th Annual Mickey Mart Rewards Cavalcade of Stars May 16-18. Corey will then close out the third race on MBR’s 2014 tour celebrating the July 4th weekend in style, once again in Norwalk, at the 8th Annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals July 4-6.

After observing one season of competition from outside of the cockpit, Corey looks forward to getting his shot at the best top alcohol dragster drivers in the world.

“Last season was one that we’ll never forget. Kyle did a spectacular job making the transition from Super Comp to the A/fuel dragster class, and I learned so much from observing him as well as working with Randy and Jared Dreher, our partners from Dreher Motorsports,” said Corey. “I enjoyed helping out on the car and soaking up as much knowledge as I could, but my true desire has always been to be competing behind the wheel. The first race of 2014 that we’re running in Charlotte is the biggest moment in my racing career to date, and I have high expectations for myself. I can’t wait to see what’s ahead now that I’ve completed my license upgrade.”

Kyle and Corey will once again be returning to the track with assistance from second-year partners, Dreher Motorsports. The Dreher’s wealth of knowledge in all facets of preparing and handling the 3,500 horsepower dragster was vital in MBR’s success last year, and Kyle looks forward to building upon what has already been a wildly successful partnership.

“Randy and Jared have been great mentors, and that provides confidence knowing they are willing to help Corey and me develop into A/fuel dragster competitors. We appreciate their support, and are greatful for the opportunity to work with their team,” said Kyle.

MBR will continue their successful partnership with Federal Mogul brands in 2014 with support from Champion, Fel-Pro, Sealed Power, and Speed-Pro. Federal-Mogul is a leading global vehicle components manufacturer offering a comprehensive portfolio of quality products, trusted brands and creative solutions to the automotive aftermarket. TAN Thirty Under 30 #2-3 - Corey and Kyle Michalek

Written by Nate Van Wagnen

One of the original goals of TAN was to highlight anyone and everyone from the alcohol pits - drivers, crew chiefs, crew members, sponsors, etc. In a new series of articles, we'll feature some of the younger personalities that can be found in the alcohol pits. Thirty alcohol insiders under the age of 30. If you have a suggestion for a Thirty Under 30 feature, email us, post on our Facebook page, or tweet it to @TopAlcoholNews.

Ohio-born brothers Corey and Kyle Michalek joined the alcohol ranks as drivers in 2013 after several years working as crew members or drivers of their Super Comp dragster. They most recently worked for Pat Dakin's Top Fuel Dragster team after winning two IHRA world championships with Mark Thomas' popular Ethanol Alcohol Funny Car team. The brothers stepped up to run the Dreher Motorsports A/Fuel dragster at select races in 2013 with continued funding from Champion Spark Plugs, which they originally acquired through their winning 'Search for a Champion' contest campaign. We caught up with Corey and Kyle before the holidays to discuss their past, the future, and how they use social media to benefit their racing efforts.

Tell us about your crew background with Mark Thomas.

Kyle Michalek - I started with Mark directly after graduating high school. What's unique about our situation is we grew up playing football, basketball, and swimming. We never turned a wrench on any type of race car at any time before graduating high school. Drag racing was just something we watched on TV or maybe went to a race or two, but never participated. Mark was a family friend and he asked us to come out to his shop and check out the race car, which we thought was really cool. Shortly after that, I went to my first national event as an “honorary crew member” - I cleaned oil pans, wiped off the car, and basically did anything to stay out of the way while still feeling special, that I was out there. That ended up working out very well. I kept going to races with Mark and my responsibilities increased. I ended up working on the bottom end for him all the way through college. During my last year with him, 2006, we won the championship.

Corey came along after he graduated high school. He worked with me and then he took over my duties after I graduated from college.

How did your crew experience help prepare you for running your own program?

KM - As we were working with Mark as crew members, we both decided that we wanted to drive. I bought my first race car, an old Woody Gilmore Top Fuel car that had been converted into a Super Comp car. We rebuilt that and raced it for a couple of seasons while racing simultaneously with Mark.

Corey and I can say that everything we learned about racing, from the mechanical standpoint, came from working with Mark Thomas. We really had no idea what to do mechanically before that point. We were very ambitious and wanted to learn. Fortunately he was a good teacher and along with his crew gave us that opportunity to learn.

Corey Michalek - Mark was actually the one who got us hooked up with Pat Dakin a few years down the line. Kyle started doing the clutch on Pat's Top Fuel car. I started assisting him a few races in. That was our first foray into anything competitive within the NHRA side of things. Pat showed us the process of running a Top Fuel car at the highest level of the sport, and how much more attention to detail was required. It's like ten thousand times more work than the alcohol car.

Corey, how did you get into the multimedia side of things?

CM I had no mechanical knowledge when Kyle started working with Mark. I wasn't really interested in anything motorsports. My dad had taken us to a few races, but I just didn't have the bug yet. He actually had to bribe me to go to the IHRA World Nationals at Norwalk that year, promising a trip to Cedar Point after the race. I took my video camera to keep me occupied while Kyle worked on the car. I recorded everything from the run to the maintenance in the pits. I enjoyed the storytelling aspect of working with the camera. I started making videos for Mark to use for sponsorship proposals or speaking engagements. At that point, that was how I felt I was a part of the team, by helping out with the marketing side of things.

I later worked on brochures and hero cards for Mark. It ended up being something that I was passionate about, so I went to school for it. Multimedia and design are parts of my job at Michalek Brothers Racing, but it's also what I do for my legitimate, full-time job.

What role did social media and multimedia play in your Search for a Champion win?

CM - The basic premise behind the Search for a Champion contest is you need a two-minute video that best depicts why you're a 'champion' – it's all about your character, the way you present yourself, and your efforts on and off of the track. The base part of our campaign was showing what we do best through our video. 33% of the judging for the contest is voting, so social media became a vital part of winning. We used Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram – we did everything we possibly could to get our name out there in front of family, friends, and drag racing fans. Through social media, we connected with WFO Radio, other racers, Competition Plus, and various other different web domains within the drag racing world in order to get our name out there. For the first year of the Champion contest, we not only won over the Champion judges, but we also had the most active fan base. That was really cool to see everyone get behind us.

KM - When it comes to social media, Corey solely handles that aspect of our operation and does a good job of using social media creatively, but also effectively. Most of the content we release is purposeful. We try to make it worthwhile for anyone who is following us. I think that's been helpful over the last few years, as we are seeing more followers liking what we post. It's beginning to pick up steam in that area.
Can you talk about your relationship with Champion and how it's grown since winning the contest?
CM - We just released our announcement that we're heading into our third year with Champion Spark Plugs. To get involved with Champion in the first place was an accomplishment, but we're very proud that we were able to continue that relationship over the last two years. We're looking forward to another year with them this year.

Going back to where it all began, the opportunity to go from being an unsponsored, unknown race team to a team who is involved with a Fortune 500 company, that was about as big of a shot in the arm as you could ask for. That has opened up so many more avenues for us as we pursue additional partners. We're able to have that on our resume – it adds a lot of legitimacy to our team. The group at Federal-Mogul has been great to work with. They're very supportive of anything that we want to do. As far as what you look for in a sponsor, we're very fortunate to be affiliated with the group of Federal-Mogul brands.

The Search for a Champion contest is in it's third round. We still continue to play an active role in helping to promote that contest as an attest to all of the great things that can come about from being involved in the contest. Champion has shown that they're a group who is willing to take care of racers, especially grassroots guys who are just getting started, such as ourselves.

When did you decide that A/Fuel was the next step?
CM - It would've been the late summer of 2012. We were wrapping up our first season with Champion while we were racing our Super Comp car. We both knew that we ultimately wanted to grow in the sport. We were kind of at a crossroads as far as what we wanted to do next. We had the funding to put together a great Super Comp car and have a lot of fun with that, or we had the opportunity to go a different direction. We agreed that racing Super Comp any further wasn't going to accomplish any of our future goals. We both decided to put the Super Comp operation up for sale and begin looking at opportunities in the Top Alcohol Dragster class.

We specifically chose A/Fuel because of the similarities in the driving procedures to those of a Top Fuel car. We both had aspirations to move up to that class, so we thought this was the best option to help us prepare for that opportunity.

I don't think either one of us regret that decision. We haven't been able to race as much, as it's more expensive, but we're very happy with what we've done so far. Kyle licensed with Anthony Dicero at the beginning of 2013. We were able to hit the ground running when we began racing with the Drehers. We had a successful year racing with them. Kyle went to the finals at the Norwalk regional and qualified for his first national event (also Norwalk), then I finished up the year by licensing at Indy in October.

KM - It just came to a point where we had to decide how to move forward. A/Fuel looked like it was the most logical next step. We went all-in and so far so good.

Where do you see yourselves going forward in the class?

CM – As of right now, the deal that we have going with the Drehers is something that we're very pleased with. Jared and Randy pretty much mentored us through everything that we know about A/Fuel racing. We really like the family operation. Everyone at Dreher Motorsports was very welcoming – Jared, Randy, his wife Joyce, Jared's girlfriend Tracy, and Red, as well as the rest of their crew and family. Their track record speaks for itself. We're very fortunate to have the opportunity to drive their car. So right now I feel like we're at a good spot. If it ever came down to the point where they needed to run more races, we'd totally understand – it's their car and we respect that. We would maybe look at running with someone else only because of the fact that we need to get out and run, but I think we're very happy with what we're doing now.

There aren't any plans to go out and purchase our own operation just because of how well our current situation is working out. With us living in different states and having full-time jobs, it would be too difficult to maintain our own operation.

The self-promotion of the alcohol classes has been a big topic lately. As someone who has used social media to grow your efforts, how do you see social media playing a role in how alcohol teams promote themselves?

CM - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and now even Vine are all tools that I believe the Top Alcohol community needs to really be serious about embracing. Most of the teams have created profiles for each of the networks, but they haven't fully taken advantage of what they have to offer. Harnessing the power of these platforms can dramatically increase their digital footprint and strengthen their case when talking to future sponsors about how their online network away from the racetrack can provide them a greater ROI.

The free press and fan impressions that teams can get on these channels is something that they can't afford to miss out on. On the computer or on the go with mobile phones, fans are constantly consuming this information and social media is the easiest way to keep teams and sponsors top of mind.

One of the biggest things that I think teams need to keep in mind is being conscious about posting meaningful content. A thoroughly planned media strategy and testing multiple content themes is crucial to having success on social networks. Throwing out 25 posts a day is more likely to lose you followers than anything else. Look at what your favorite brands or sponsors are doing on Facebook and Twitter...the posts that are the most successful are that way for a reason. Modeling your content after theirs is a great starting point. Well thought-out, to-the-point posts are what give your followers something of value and that is what they're after...even if it's only a few times a week. This is definitely a shining example where quality is better than quantity.

Some of the professional teams that do it really, really well are Force and Schumacher. They're constantly doing giveaways, chats with their drivers, and interacting with their fans. These are some of the most well-established brands in drag racing and what they're doing on social media should be viewed as the benchmark for all of us to model our digital strategies off of.

The ability to interact with some of their favorite teams/drivers is one of biggest draws of social media for racing fans. Fan mail is no longer nearly as relevant anymore because social media is so personable and it's real time, on demand. Teams can easily communicate with and establish relationships with their fans with a quick response to a tweet or by responding to a video question. The fans are what make this sport special and they are what allows us to race, so we can't afford to not capitalize on every opportunity to interact with them.

At the track, I think the alcohol teams are doing great things. The racing is phenomenal. The efforts of the Pro Sportsman Association, with their autograph sessions, I think that's great. I was very impressed with some of the regional races, like Norwalk's Cavalcade of Stars. I think that race's attendance was greater than that of their national event because of the way the Baders promote it. They really put on a show, with a parade of the cars and the drivers; it's phenomenal. However, I think there's a lot left to be gained away from the track online.

KM - Just being able to put faces with the cars is important. The Pro teams have been able to differentiate themselves from the alcohol teams through their online presence, but also through their more comprehensive television package, which isn't an option for the alcohol guys. For fans who want to relate to the drivers or who want more information about what's going on on-track, social media is the best option.

Michalek Brothers Racing and Champion Spark Plugs Brand to Continue Partnership for Third Year

Courtesy of Michalek Brothers Racing

Vehicle Component Manufacturers Fel-Pro, Sealed Power, and Speed-Pro Brands also continue their relationship with MBR

Michalek Brothers Racing (MBR) is excited to once again announce a continued partnership with Federal-Mogul Corporation’s (NASDAQ: FDML) Champion® Spark Plugs brand. The Champion brand will be a prominent associate sponsor on MBR’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series A/fuel dragster entry with additional Federal-Mogul brand support coming from the company’s Fel-Pro® Gaskets and Sealed Power® and Speed-Pro® engine components brands.

Winner's of Champion's first ever "Search for a Champion" contest, Kyle and Corey Michalek have built a relationship with the brand that has prospered and continued to evolve each year. The partnership began with MBR's Super Comp dragster in 2012 and was followed with the team's inaugural year of competition in the NHRA's premier semi-professional class, Top Alcohol Dragster, in 2013. This coming season will mark the third consecutive year that MBR and Champion have teamed up.

Looking back on 2013, MBR and Champion entered into Top Alcohol Dragster competition hitting on all cylinders. Both drivers, Kyle and Corey Michalek, successfully licensed to compete in the class and Kyle Michalek shined on track at the regional event in Norwalk, Ohio reaching the final round during his first race. MBR spread the word about the brand's Search for a Champion and King of the Road initiatives in front of crowds exceeding 45,000 fans per day and put the Champion Spark Plugs dragster on display in front of a national audience on ESPN2. Kyle looks forward to continuing to advocate for Champion on and off the track again in the upcoming season.

"We had a lot of fun interacting with fans at the track last season while proudly promoting the Champion, Fel-Pro, Sealed Power, and Speed-Pro brands," said Kyle. "We are looking forward to doing more of the same in 2014 while growing MBR's influence within the Top Alcohol Dragster class."

Looking ahead to 2014, Michalek Brothers Racing and Champion eagerly anticipate the partnership's most eventful year to date. MBR is tentatively planning to compete at 5 events on the 2014 NHRA tour. MBR and Champion's marketing team will also continue to collaborate in social media engagements and at-track promotions. Sharing the driving duties, Kyle Michalek will make his return to the cockpit to follow-up on his highly successful 2013 appearances, and rookie driver Corey Michalek will make his competition debut behind the wheel of an A/fuel dragster.

“MBR made a monumental leap last year licensing and competing in an A/fuel dragster, and Champion was the primary reason that we were able to do so,” said Corey. “Having their backing not only helps us sufficiently fund our operation, it also further adds legitimacy to our team as we continue to try and establish ourselves at the highest levels of the sport. We take a lot of pride wearing the Champion colors and we can't wait to further spread the word about their marketing efforts and all of the performance driven products and promotional opportunities they have to offer other racers.”
