Salt Lake City, UT – Johnny Ahten is heading to the Salt Lake Nitro Jam with the
mindset of a defending champion. You see, back in 2010, Ahten and his Pro Fuel
Dragster not only won the event, he reset the track record at Rocky Mountain
Raceways with a blistering elapsed time of 5.56 seconds. Ahten did not compete
in the event in 2011, so to Ahten, it’s a title defense.
“The way the Nitro Jam events are set up, it’s unload the car, and
swing for the fence,” said Ahten. “We know what it takes to go fast in Salt
Lake, and the crew and the Stump Puller are ready to crank out the long
ball.”
Tuning a Nitromethane powered dragster is a
tricky thing. It’s a good thing that Crew Chief and Johnny’s Dad, Al Ahten has
all the numbers from 2010 when they set the track on fire. The Ahten Racing crew
of Howard Katano, Bob Ahten, Chuck Costabile, and Todd "Rocky" Rockwell will be
proving the needed muscle and technical advice. Making things a bit easier on
the team are some new grinding stones and assistance from Goodson Tools &
Supplies. Also aboard the Stump Puller is Island Renovations, and promotional
Partner Fireman’s Brew. Tools, Hawaiian sunsets, and beer are a winning
combination in anyone’s book.
There is one other
thing that makes the Salt Lake Nitro Jam special. Utah is the home of sponsor

TAN Driver Blog - Johnny Ahten - TAD
It's Monday night and it's a race week! I still have a ton of stuff to do but I won't have work again until after the race. Speaking of work, today we had another brush fire. I'm typing this in the evening at the fire station. Today's fire got into a dead orchard of peach trees and threatened a few homes and structures but we were able to get a handle on it without losing anything. Today is also my last day at this fire station and I will be transferring to another for a brief time and trying to get a little closer to home.

San Antonio Nitro Jam Goes Big for Dennis

San Antonio, TX - Kristen Dennis and her Ladies' First Pro Fuel Dragster went big Texas Style. That is putting it mild. Dennis captured the IHRA Nitro Jam Ironman trophy and the crowds couldn't get enough of this Texas native.
"I signed and handed out all the hero cards I had and went to scrambling to find more," said Dennis. "In Texas the saying is, "Go Big, or Go Home!" I have regular duties I perform on my car prior to each round. After the first run, I didn't have time to pack my chutes or even warm up my car, that's where a great crew steps in. I was busy signing cards and speaking to fans. It was a very humbling experience. San Antonio race fans rock!"
On the track, Dennis was matched up against Robin Samsel in the first race. Samsel knew he had to be quick off the line, but pushed the tree a bit too much and red-lighted the race away. Dennis posted a 5.416/259.37 for the win. The Ladies' First team raced back to the pits to hop the car up for the finals against Bill Evans. They knew they had to be on their game. When the finals time came, Dennis got the starting line advantave and never looked back. She couldn't have anyway, after posting a 5.385 elapsed time with a thundering 276.92 miles per hour to Evan's 5.512/264.39.
"I knew it was on a run, and it kept me in my seat the whole way down the track," said Dennis. "We looked at the computer after the race and the car pulled 3.3 g's at the launch, and it pulled 2g's on the run continuously to 1000 feet. After this run my hands were shaking, it was such a rush," added Dennis. The Nitro Jam Ironman trophy was hers, and Dennis stopped four times on the return road to acknowledge the crowd in the stands. The San Antonio IHRA race fans loved Kristen Dennis and her Ladies' First Dragster, and she let them know how much it meant to her.
After the final round, the crowds swarmed the Ladies' First pits and Dennis. "I met so many great fans this weekend," said Dennis. "I didn't realize how much of an impact I had on people. My daughter came up to me and said: "Mom, there's someone here you have to meet." She brought me to a young lady with tears in her eyes. I asked if she was okay, the young lady wanted to tell me what a big inspiration I was to her, and what she could do to be like me. It was powerful stuff. I had to struggle to keep from breaking down myself. Being a woman drag racer is about dreams, goals, and strength to believe "yes I can" and that makes everything I go through worth it. I have been blessed with this opportunity to inspire people, and I am so grateful for that." Dennis went on to thank those who helped her get out to the track. "I really want to thank Space City Hot shots, 801 Racing and CleanBoost Oil, Global Promotional Advertising, Anglia Homes, and Glass Depot," added Dennis.
The race was over around nine pm. Dennis had to be dragged to the Winner's Circle ceremony around eleven pm. The team left the track around three am. This was a big event for everyone, Texas big. The IHRA Nitro Jam series continues on, even though Kristen Dennis would love to run every race in Texas. Her next race will be May 4-5 in Baton Rouge, LA at State Capitol Raceway and Dennis will be carrying plenty of Texas confidence and fan spirit with her.

Kristen Dennis aiming to put "Ladies' First" at Texas Nitro Jam

San Antonio, TX - As a working mother of two, Pro Fuel Dragster pilot Kristen Dennis knows all about pressure. She gets the kids off to school, deals with homework, sports, and running a business all at the same time. Now throw in running a five thousand horse power dragster into the mix, and the fun begins. Dennis will be taking a rest from her daily routine by competing at the IHRA's Nitro Jam at the San Antonio Raceway this weekend. The crowd is in for a Texas treat, served up by Kristen Dennis and her "Ladies' First" Pro Fuel Dragster. While it may not seem like a vacation to some, Dennis will be spending time with her kids, her friends, and the fans of Nitro Jam.
"This is a hometown race for us," said Dennis. "I have family, friends, and even High School classmates coming out who have never seen me race. They have seen videos, but never in person. This is huge. I love interacting with the fans. It's an all day way for them to see the car up close, meet the crew, and learn about what I do. The women are really excited to hear all about it and the men are amazed also. I don't want to be called a good woman driver, just a good driver. It doesn't matter who is in the other lane, I'll beat anyone."
Dennis has received some help along the way to get her "Ladies' First" dragster to the track. Space City Hot shots, 801 Racing and CleanBoost Oil have provided critical support. Global Promotional Advertising has worked with Dennis on her "Ladies' First" T-Shirts, and even created foam fingers for the fans. Also providing additional assistance is Anglia Homes, and Glass Depot. They have all lent their support so Dennis can blast down the quarter mile at over two hundred and sixty miles per hour. But Dennis wants more than to just get down the track.
"I want to do this Texas style, we don't go big, we go huge," added Dennis. "I have high expectations. We are going to the Nitro Jam to win, BOTH nights," as Dennis lets out a little laugh. Then her voice softens and she gets serious. "I have overcome so many obstacles to get here, and I am going to make sure the job gets done. I have new tires for the car, a bunch of new parts, a seasoned crew, and we worked our Texas tails off to get here. Now it's time. I don't want to just do it, I want to overdo it."

Ahten and 801 Racing Pull out the NItro Jam Win

Tucson, AZ - The Stump Puller lived up to its name this past weekend at IHRA's Southwestern International Dragway. The crowd screamed and yelled. But they were not running for their lives, but running to the winners circle to congratulate Johnny Ahten on his Nitro Jam win. Ahten defeated Bill Evans to take the Ironman trophy home to Southern California. This is Ahten's second Nitro Jam Ironman, so now his 2010 Utah Ironman has some company on the shelf.
"We were so excited to get the win for all the folks that support us," said Ahten. "Running a Pro Fuel car is not cheap, and I really want to thank 801 Racing, Island Renovations, Fireman's Brew, Fire Ice, Hedman Hedders, and NGK Sparkplugs. I also want to thank my Dad and Crew Chief Al Ahten, as well as crew members Howard Katano, Bob Ahten, Kevin Colvell, and Kelly Fitzgerald."
The road to the final round was paved with a win over Cherissa Smallwood. In that round, Ahten set low elapsed time of the event with a 5.41. That kind of performance took the pressure off the team and allowed them to concentrate on the rest of the operation. In the finals against Bill Evans, there was a bit of drama on the starting line. Raw fuel was coming out of cylinder #6. At the flash of the lights, a .059 reaction time gave Ahten the big lead. Evans was having trouble of his own, and tire smoke ended his day. After damaging a valve at the hit, Ahten motored down the quarter mile for the win with a 5.740/244.21. The 801 Racing 70W Racing Oil saved the engine and guaranteed the victory. As Johnny Ahten removed his firesuit at the end of the track, it began to sink in.
"It's kind of lonely way down there on the top end. Bill came over and we shook hands and I waited for my crew to arrive," added Ahten. "It was just me and the Stump Puller, and together we were the first to celebrate. The team finally got there and we headed to the winners circle. It was great to see all the fans waiting for us there. It was really special; even though we were rushed out of there a little quick for my liking."
It's understandable why Ahten wanted to stay and celebrate longer. His day had started at 6:30 in the morning. After the win, there was over two hours of work to do. The team finally reached their hotel room around 2am - nothing new in the life of a drag racer. Johnny Ahten and the crew of the Stump Puller wouldn't have it any other way. Johnny Ahten heads to Tucson Nitro Jam with a Plan

Tucson, AZ - Johnny Ahten has the perfect idea for the roadside billboards around Southwestern International Raceway. In bold letters he wants: "Run for your lives....the Stump Puller is coming!" It sounds like something from a horror movie, but in reality, the Stump Puller is actually Ahten's Nitromethane Injected Pro Fuel Dragster.
Ahten is bringing his Island Renovations/801 Racing Team to the desert to create a bit of havoc for IHRA's Nitro Jam. The Tucson area crowds have been warned. Ahten is planning on leaving with the newest rendition of the Ironman, and he's not shy about it.
"The Stump Puller is ready to rock and roll on 100% Nitro," said Ahten. "I want to get my hands on one of the newly redesigned Ironman trophies. I've won the NitroJam race before, and my 2010 Utah Ironman needs some company."
Besides winning the trophy, Ahten has some special things planned for all in attendance. He plans to unleash the sound and fury of a full load of Nitromethane. It will showcase the cackle and pop of Pro Fuel at its best. To do this, Johnny Ahten is relying on his Crew Chief and Dad, Al Ahten. Working alongside Ahten's will be crew members Howard Katano, Bob Ahten, Kevin Colvell, and Kelly Fitzgerald.
Ahten is also letting loose his newest creation: The Stump Puller T-shirt. Crazy talented Stith Printing of Santa Fe Springs, CA whipped up a batch of these monstrosities just for the Nitro Jam crowd. Fashion week in Paris is cringing at the site of these bad boys.
A mild mannered Fire Captain by day, Johnny Ahten is once again teaming up with promotional partner Fireman's Brew. The brewing company was created by two California Firefighters after battling a brushfire. Helping to light the fire in Ahten's dragster will be NGK Sparkplugs, and Hedman Hedders will toss what's left to the side. Ahten's 5000hp Nitropowered engine will be well protected. 801 Racing's 70Wt Oil with CleanBoost Technology stands guard over the bearings and other internal components.
The parts have been massaged, the tune-up honed, and the shirts delivered. Now all that is left for Johnny Ahten and his Team is the fun part -- the racing! Tucson, AZ - Johnny Ahten has the perfect idea for the roadside billboards around Southwestern International Raceway. In bold letters he wants: "Run for your lives....the Stump Puller is coming!" It sounds like something from a horror movie, but in reality, the Stump Puller is actually Ahten's Nitromethane Injected Pro Fuel Dragster.
Ahten is bringing his Island Renovations/801 Racing Team to the desert to create a bit of havoc for IHRA's Nitro Jam. The Tucson area crowds have been warned. Ahten is planning on leaving with the newest rendition of the Ironman, and he's not shy about it.
"The Stump Puller is ready to rock and roll on 100% Nitro," said Ahten. "I want to get my hands on one of the newly redesigned Ironman trophies. I've won the NitroJam race before, and my 2010 Utah Ironman needs some company."
Besides winning the trophy, Ahten has some special things planned for all in attendance. He plans to unleash the sound and fury of a full load of Nitromethane. It will showcase the cackle and pop of Pro Fuel at its best. To do this, Johnny Ahten is relying on his Crew Chief and Dad, Al Ahten. Working alongside Ahten's will be crew members Howard Katano, Bob Ahten, Kevin Colvell, and Kelly Fitzgerald.
Ahten is also letting loose his newest creation: The Stump Puller T-shirt. Crazy talented Stith Printing of Santa Fe Springs, CA whipped up a batch of these monstrosities just for the Nitro Jam crowd. Fashion week in Paris is cringing at the site of these bad boys.
A mild mannered Fire Captain by day, Johnny Ahten is once again teaming up with promotional partner Fireman's Brew. The brewing company was created by two California Firefighters after battling a brushfire. Helping to light the fire in Ahten's dragster will be NGK Sparkplugs, and Hedman Hedders will toss what's left to the side. Ahten's 5000hp Nitropowered engine will be well protected. 801 Racing's 70Wt Oil with CleanBoost Technology stands guard over the bearings and other internal components.
The parts have been massaged, the tune-up honed, and the shirts delivered. Now all that is left for Johnny Ahten and his Team is the fun part -- the racing! Cherissa Smallwood Victorious in Pro Fuel at Northern Nitro Jam 2011

Martin, Mi -- It’s taken more than a decade of trial and error for Cherrisa Smallwood’s Nitro and Lace Pro Fuel family owned dragster to earn their first winner’s circle appearance. All of their efforts finally became a reality during Friday nights eliminations at US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan.
“I have so many people to thank for everything they have done for us” said Smallwood, “my dad and my family are on top of the list. We’ve lived all of the highs and lows together and sometimes you just wonder if your ever going to get to experience a very hard earned win.
“The next group of people that we have to thank are all the teams within the Nitro Jam family. So many of the other teams, including Bill Evans and Robin Samsel have gone over and above to help us when we were in a bind, words cannot say how grateful we are.
“Last but not least, all of the Nitro Jam fans from around the Country. You guys and gals are such an inspiration and all of us racers appreciate that you choose to come and support us with what we love to do”.
The Northern Nitro Jam is the last even of the year for the Nitro Jam Series, and will get back into action tomorrow, August 13, 2011. Gates open at 9:00 am with fan fest kicking off at 5:30. The Nitro Jam “Night of Fire” begins at 7:00 pm.

Hill and Nitro Fever Racing Prepared for Pro Fuel Dragster 2011 Debut
“We’re elated to be attending our first Nitro Jam event of the year because we can try to back up the 5.45 pass we made at MIR (Maryland International Raceway) last year. The Pro Fuel class is exciting for us, as we can make as much horsepower as possible; there are no limits. The ‘run what ya brung’ style really appeals to us,” said Hill.
Though it’s their first Pro Fuel race of the year, Dave is confident in the team.
“Nitro Fever Racing is ready to compete with the best of the best in the Pro Fuel Dragster category. We’re hoping to repeat and improve our season finale race last year, where we took out the championship contender in the first round and went to the finals. I’m looking forward to running good numbers this weekend. Along with running well, I’m really excited to put on a great show for the fans!” claimed the Indiana-based driver.

IHRA's Pro Fuel Dragster Champion Yet To Be Determined
With only one Pro event left in the 2011 season, the fight for the Pro Fuel Dragster championship will be decided last minute. Mike Manners in "The Shredder" is leading the points standings by only 3 points, with Bill Evans right on his tail in second. The champion will be crowned at the Northern Nitro Jam event at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park, August 12-13.
Just like he did in 2010, Bill Evans is hoping to come from behind and take the championship. Evans sealed the deal at the Virginia race last year, winning the championship in the class' inaugural season. Trailing by only 3 points, Bill has a good chance to repeat.
Mike Manners has been having a great season in one of IHRA's premiere classes, with four wins and a 12-4 record in eliminations. Manners will not only be fighting for the championship, he'll be trying to repeat his victory at this track in 2010.
Along with Manners and Evans, a few other drivers will be in attendance. Cherissa Smallwood, Dave Hill, Robin Samsel, and more will also be competing for the Northern Nitro Jam Ironman trophy.
