LAS VEGAS (October 23) – A two-month break from racing is over for Greg Hunter and his ExactAir Compliance Systems Top Alcohol Dragster team. The Kenny Gilmour-owned team will return to the site of Greg’s TAD debut and first round win, The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, for the Toyota NHRA Nationals, Oct. 25-27. The race is the first of three in a row for the Canadian group.

“The team spent our off-weekends preparing for these three races. We didn’t have the greatest performance at Brainerd. We were missing one of our most important crew members, Cal. He’ll be with us for the next three races though, so I feel confident. Our whole team – Gary, Johnny, Del, Kenny, Darlene, and my wife Staci - is excited to race in Vegas again. We always have a lot of friends and customers join us, adding to the fun Vegas atmosphere,” said Greg, who is in just his second season in TAD.

Three consecutive races – the Las Vegas national and regional event and Auto Club Finals at Pomona – give the part-time team a chance to improve their routine through practice.

“Our goal is always to improve every aspect on every run. That includes everything from the tune-up, to the driving, and the maintenance. Racing three events consecutively gives us more opportunities to improve and less time to forget what we learned at the previous race.”

Joining Greg and the ExactAir/Kenny Gilmour Motorsports team in Vegas will be twenty other Top Alcohol Dragsters from all over the western half of the country, all fighting for a chance to race for the Wally at the penultimate national event of the season.

“There are a lot of serious contender cars entered for this race. We need to bring our A-game so we can qualify well enough to set ourselves up for a long race day. If we can improve on every run, I think can do better than we did at the last Vegas race,” Greg added.

Hunter Optimistic About Brainerd Debut

BRAINERD, Minn. (August 15, 2013) – Despite a first round loss at his most recent event in Seattle, Top Alcohol Dragster driver Greg Hunter is optimistic as he heads to the NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway, August 16-18. His results at the Northwest Nationals might not show it, but Greg’s ExactAir Compliance Systems dragster is showing promise.

“We were really happy with how the car was running at Seattle. Obviously we were disappointed that we lost first round, though. We had a small issue – the car didn’t run what we thought it should have run first round. We had a bunch of new stuff on the car. It responded to everything we did so the team and I were very happy about that. We’re going to take that information to Brainerd and tune it up a bit,” Hunter said, who qualified in the middle of the field with a 5.38 and fell to event finalist Garrett Bateman first round.

This will be the Kenny Gilmour Motorsports team’s inaugural visit to the popular stop on the NHRA circuit.

“We’ve never been to Brainerd before. One of our crew guys and sponsors, Del Lloyd of Omega 2000 Cribbing, has raced there a lot so he’s looking forward to it and we’re looking forward to it for him, as well. I’m also interested to witness The Zoo,” Greg laughed, referencing BIR’s fan campground that is known for its party atmosphere.

Though the team doesn’t have any experience racing at Brainerd, Hunter believes they will be able to adjust quickly to the new setting. The natural surroundings of the track can produce conditions prime for producing horsepower.

“NHRA national event tracks are usually good. From what I understand, there are a lot of trees around the track, which usually provide us with plenty of oxygen in the air to work with. We’re really looking forward to it.”

Top Alcohol Dragster qualifying at the NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals is scheduled for 2:30 and 5 PM on Friday, with a last chance qualifying session Saturday morning at 10:30. Eliminations begin at 2:30 PM Saturday and continue on Sunday.

Hunter Entering Northwest Nationals with Improved ExactAir Dragster

SEATTLE, Wash. (July 31, 2013) – ExactAir Compliance Systems Top Alcohol Dragster driver Greg Hunter enters this weekend’s O’Reilly NHRA Northwest Nationals with an improved tune-up in his Kenny Gilmour-owned blown alcohol car. The ExactAir dragster previously reached the finals at the team’s last race, but the Canadian group decided to make some adjustments to prepare for the Seattle national event.

“After racing in Denver we found some things that we wanted to improve. We made the improvements and went testing back home in Alberta. We tested at Medicine Hat, where I first started racing years ago. It was awesome to run the alcohol car in front of our friends from the early days of my racing career. We also test at Edmonton, where we got to see some family and friends. It was a lot of fun but testing didn’t go as planned, so we went back and made some more improvements. Now we’re ready to go to Seattle,” Hunter said.

Only twelve dragsters are entered for the Northwest Nationals so Hunter will receive a guaranteed spot in the field as long as he makes a pass down the track. This will give Gilmour and the crew a chance to tune the car up without worrying about making it into the qualified field.

“It’s nice that we don’t have to worry about making it in the show,” Greg claimed. “We know we’re in the field so we can take a chance or two in qualifying. Just like any race, we’re going to Seattle trying to go as fast as we can. It looks like the conditions will be right, too.”

The field’s quality makes up for the low quantity. Some of the nation’s top cars are entered, including blown alcohol stars Chris Demke, Ray Martin, and Shawn Cowie, who recently returned from a twe-year motorcycle accident recovery.

“It’s really cool to see Shawn Cowie racing again. Shawn coming back and winning his first race back is very impressive. We love racing the fast cars like that because those are the guys that we’re trying to run with. Having them all on the property gives us motivation to work towards their level,” Greg said of his Seattle competition.

Top Alcohol Dragster qualifying at the O’Reilly Northwest Nationals is scheduled for 2:15 and 4:45 PM on Friday, August 2nd. Final round of qualifying is set for 11:30 AM on Saturday, followed by first round of eliminations at 4 PM.

Hunter Reaches First Final at Denver Regional

MORRISON, Colo. (June 19, 2013) – Second-year Top Alcohol Dragster driver Greg Hunter reached his first final round in TAD competition last weekend at Bandimere Speedway’s Thunder on the Mountain regional event. He entered eliminations from a career-best No. 2 qualifying position before falling to reigning national champion Jim Whiteley in the finals.

“It felt great to qualify well and win a couple rounds. It’s been a dream of mine since I started racing to race Top Alcohol and make it to a final round. Obviously you want to win, but the first step is making it to the final. Qualifying No.2 was great too. We would’ve liked to have had a better performance, but we were happy with the consistency,” Greg said.

Hunter held onto the number two spot throughout qualifying, running 5.712, 5.706, and 5.714 respectively. Greg took out Geno Tumbarello first round before a close race with Edwin Schmeeckle in the semifinals. Just sixteen inches separated the two at the finish line stripe – 5.702 to Schmeeckle’s 5.711. That set up a final round pairing with 2012 TAD National champ Jim Whiteley, who ran just a tick quicker in the previous round, 5.691. Hunter and his Kenny Gilmour-owned ExactAir Compliance Systems teamed maintained optimism as they prepared to face Whiteley.

“The way I look at it, the final round is like Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals; anything can happen. Jim ran very well in qualifying but his run in the semifinals was right where we were. We wanted to be there, ready to strike in case he encountered problems in the finals,” claimed the former TAFC driver.

Greg’s almost-perfect 0.008 reaction time wasn’t enough to take him to his first win. Whiteley unloaded his quickest run of eliminations, 5.47 to Hunter’s 5.71.

Though he was unable to walk away with the win, Greg was pleased with his time at the mile-high raceway.

“We had a great time at Denver. We hung out with the YNot team after the race. They’re just a class act team. It’s a pleasure to race in the same class as those guys, and then to race them in the final round.”

Hunter Looking to Rebound at Denver's Thunder on the Mountain

MORRISON, Colo. (June 14, 2013) – Following a two-month break since his last race, Greg Hunter and his ExactAir Compliance Systems Top Alcohol Dragster team is eager to return to the competition this weekend. The team has taken a hard look at their tune-up after early exits at the season-opening races at Pomona and Las Vegas. Now Hunter and his Kenny Gilmour Motorsports group want to put their adjustments to the test at the Grease Monkey Thunder on the Mountain Lucas Oil Series regional event and Bandimere Speedway, June 14-16.

“We had some time off after the last race in Vegas. We were a little disappointed with our performance at that race, so we went through everything on the car. I think we learned a few things that should improve our performance at Denver this weekend. We got some good data when we ran here for the first time last year. That should also help us run better than we have all year,” said Hunter, who is racing in his second year in TAD after switching from an alcohol-burning Funny Car.

Hunter, who last raced at the SummitRacing.com Nationals in Las Vegas in April, has been unable to proceed past first round of eliminations at all three of his races this season. Despite decent qualifying efforts, the Canadian team has suffered minor problems first round. Greg hopes all of the car’s gremlins are ironed out so he can race late into eliminations in front of the Denver fans and visiting ExactAir customers.

“We enjoyed racing at Denver last year. They draw one of the larger crowds for a regional event on the western half of the U.S. We’re also hosting ExactAir customers at this race as we did last year, so we want to have a good showing for them. ”

Greg and the ExactAir/Kenny Gilmour Motorsports Top Alcohol Dragster team will first take to the track for Friday’s lone qualifying session at 4 PM local time. Qualifying continues with sessions at 3:30 and 6:30 PM on Saturday. First round of eliminations is scheduled for Sunday at noon.
