Perkins Works His Way to First Round in Vegas

Las Vegas, NV – Long days preceded the return of Cody Perkins to the Top Alcohol Dragster class at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. A string of twelve to fourteen hour days is what it took to just make a qualifying run. Their efforts were rewarded with a good qualifying position and valuable tuning data. The racing ended in the first round but not for a lack of effort and insight.

“We spent Friday getting things done,” said Perkins of not running the first qualifying session. “It was a big team effort to get everything together. We had parts that hadn't been on the car for years. We had to work out a bunch of little issues instead of rushing and finding them out the hard way on the track.”

Friday’s second qualifying session was cancelled due to track issues so the 801 Racing Team had time to put into Saturday’s efforts. Their first trip down the quarter mile resulted in a 5.919/249.38 Early in the run there was a bit of tire shake and a quick pedal job followed. In the final qualifying session the car responded with a 5.393/263.72.

“We had to run good the last session since everyone stepped up big time,” added Perkins. “The bump spot dropped a full tenth. It was an exciting session that had us as high as 6th and dropped all the way down to 12th.”

Elimination Sunday presented itself with a first round match up with Megan McKernan. Perkins got the huge holeshot off the line and at one hundred feet out experienced some shake and short shifted the car. McKernan started to make up ground and took the win with a 5.350/254.33 to Perkins’ 5.470/262.64. “If not for the need to short shift, the car was on a 5.37 run,” added Perkins.  “We will get a handle on it and be ready for Pomona. We made the decision not to run the Regional race in the Dragster this coming weekend. We will be testing our Top Alcohol Funny Car and I hope to license in it. I would like to expand my resume as a driver.”

With the Vegas Big O Tires NHRA Nationals behind them, the 801 Racing Team and Cody Perkins are looking forward to the next two weekends of track time. The coming test runs in an Alcohol Funny Car, followed by a trip to Pomona and the World Finals is just the thing to put a cap on the racing season. Those winter months are long, and ending the year at the dragstrip racing cars will keep them warm all off-season long.

Perkins Returns to Quarter Mile Action in Vegas

Las Vegas, NV – Cody Perkins and his 801 Racing Top Alcohol Dragster is returning to competition this weekend after a few months off. The time off from racing was spent tinkering in the shop, fortifying the reserves, refining the combination, and pouring over data. Making his return at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is an easy choice. Perkins has more trips down the Vegas “Strip” than any other racetrack. The run data is immense and now comes the chance to put theory into practice. 

“I spent a lot of time in an uncomfortable chair looking at computer data and now I can’t wait to sit in the comfy chair of my dragster,” said Perkins.  “I have always liked this track. In the spring I went to the finals in TAD. Then I went to the final at the Mile High Nationals in Denver in super comp. That’s back to back National finals – a mini streak if you will. Now I’m back in the Top Alcohol Dragster and it’s time to go fast. If we have temperatures above seventy-five degrees, the car and I will love it. I can’t thank 801 Racing and the equipment service company INESCO enough for this opportunity. ”

Perkins Goes to Finals in Vegas

Las Vegas, NV - When you are passionate about something, it shows. Cody Perkins is passionate about Drag Racing, and even more so about winning. After not competing up to his standards, Perkins was determined to make an impression on the SummitRacing.com Nationals. The 801 Racing sponsored driver and car then set off to do something about it.

In qualifying, things were not exactly going as planned. With only fifteen cars in attendance, the idea was to gain data and save on parts. Perkins ended up in the number fifteen position with a pedestrian 14.358/50.54. That didn't bother Perkins. In the first round he was up against Megan McKernan. Cody's 5.415/261.98 was enough to send the number two qualifier home. Next up was the fellow 801 Racing sponsored car of Johnny Ahten. Ahten got the ever so slight reaction time advantage, and was ahead at the sixty foot mark. Ahten had some traction issues and Perkins won the round with a 5.503/232.55.

"I heard Ahten pedal it, and I lifted," said Perkins. "The crew ran up to me on the top end and wondered what had gone wrong. I had just hit the chutes early and shut it down to save parts. We can't just order up more parts, it costs too much money."

The semi-finals saw a match up against another 801 Racing sponsored car. The Nitromethan injected rail of Garrett Bateman was in the other lane. Even though they are both supported by the same company, it changes when the visor comes down and the lights change. Perkins then served up a .024 off the line and got the holeshot win with a 5.408/262.13 to Bateman's quicker 5.399/253.37. It was on to the finals. Waiting for Perkins was the rocket ship of Jim Whiteley. The Y-Not car had just defeated Chris Demke with a 5.28/272.28. With this in mind, the 801 Racing Team prepared the car for the finals. Cody Perkins did his part at the start, jumping off the line with a stellar .006 reaction time. "Flash" had the advantage, but the Whiteley express laid down a 5.306/269.35 to beat Perkins' 5.679/247.25.

"In the final we tried to rotate the earth. It worked for one second," said Perkins. "In Vegas the ladder went our way and we didn't blow anything up like we have the last five years."

John Hill of 801 Racing had this to say about Perkins: "What a performance. He made us proud. I met up with him Thursday night before the races and his confidence levels were through the roof. He really had his game face on and it paid off. He is seriously one of the most talented drivers in the field and it shows. He doesn't have the budget some of these teams have and yet he's still a major competitor and threat in the TAD class. It all boils down to his talent."

Perkins Going for the Gold in Vegas

Las Vegas, NV - Cody Perkins is racing at this weekend's SummitRacing.com Nationals for pride and respect. Fun is not in the mix. The Utah drag racer is tired of breaking parts, tired of tiptoeing around the bureaucracy, and tired of not winning. The time is now, and Perkins and his 801 Racing Top Alcohol Dragster are ready to get the job done.

"Racing at a National event has us pumped up," said Perkins. "It's great to run in front of the big crowds as opposed to the poorly attended Regional races. It's not fun racing in front of three people waiting for Super Gas."

Cody and his family based operation did not qualify at this past weekend at the Regional event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. A problem in the ignition box prevented the team from making one qualifying session when the car would not fire. Other runs did not produce a quick enough time to get in the field. It was frustrating in many ways but that is not why Perkins has decided to make a change.

"After this race I'm not sure when we will be racing again," said Perkins. "It's not because of the performance on the track. It's deeper than that. I'm fed up with the bureaucratic BS when it comes to parts innovation in the class. This weekend I'm going to run it hard, and if something breaks, who cares because I'm NOT putting it back together with the parts that are available for purchase from companies that thrive on their parts failing."

Perkins goes on to say, "After putting hundreds of hours into developing a valvetrain system that should greatly reduce the failures that everyone experiences, NHRA just shoots the technology down because it will "increase costs to the racer." Well to save on my costs, I'd like to not have parts breaking that shouldn't! NHRA doesn't want that, so I'll save money by staying home, not buying tickets to NHRA events, not renewing my membership, and especially not buying parts from any of NHRA's preferred manufacturers that are somehow allowed to come out with new designs on a regular basis."

This is not some pie in the sky proposal. It is the basic blueprint of drag racing. NHRA has driven the innovation by other suppliers out of the class. Perkins added, "I sometimes think NHRA does not care about our class at all. I think they want to drive us into the dirt. Now that Wally Parks is gone, I don't know who is in charge of the ship, but it's sinking. It's a darn right shame."

Chris Demke and 801 Racing Team Up for Winternationals Win

Pomona, Ca -- Chris Demke, driver of the 801 Racing sponsored dragster, capped off a team effort in winning the O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals this past weekend. Demke not only won the trophy, but in the final round, he ran the quickest elapsed time of the race with a stout 5.28 @ 270 mph.

"It was a great win, and having the guys from 801 Racing there made it even better," said Demke. "I am very happy to be continuing our relationship with 801 Racing and to be running the Revvolution Oil with CleanBoost Technology."

Demke's dragster was not the only car there running the Revvolution Oil this past weekend. Half of the cars in competition in the Alcohol Dragster class had 801 Racing's distinct red oil running through their engines. The company flagship was in attendance with the Cody Perkins entry. Fire Captain Johnny Ahten was blazing down the track, as well as Joey Severance. Two new cars were affixed with 801 Racing stickers in Garrett Bateman and Brooks Brown. In Top Alcohol Funny Car, Steve Gasparrelli was flying the colors. Moving up about 3000 horse power, John Lindsay's Nitro Funny Car with Team Driver James Day provided a strong testament to the engine saving properties of Revvolution Oil with CleanBoost Technology.

With all these cars running 801 Racing Oil, it was only fitting to have representation from the home office in Utah. John Hill and Tommy Parish made the trip down to Pomona to meet with the various teams, and take photos and shoot videos. Perkins Winternationals Experience a Battle

Pomona, Ca -- Cody Perkins and the 801 Racing Top Alcohol Dragster Team did quite a bit of fighting at the Winternationals. Not fisticuffs mind you, but there were battles a plenty.

Trouble started brewing Monday night before the race, just as the team was set to depart. Perkins found one of their rocker assemblies had broken. The crack wasn't noticeable until the motor was completely assembled and the valve spring pressure was applied to the push rod cup. The first punch had been thrown. Perkins recovered, and with a right hook, replaced the faulty parts with their last remaining spare stand. So the crew jumped in the truck and headed to Pomona. Once they arrived, parts were awaiting that needed to be installed to get the car race ready. A flurry of rabbit punches followed, which were taken in stride and the work continued.

"We knew it was going to be a short field," said Perkins. "We had a few new things on the car and didn't need any carnage as we plan to attend quite a few races this season."

Qualifying was treated like a test session to feel out the car and track. They did not want to run the risk of hurting the limited supply of parts. Perkins dodged a few wild punches with the weather and tricky track conditions to qualify in the number eleven position. That meant a match up with number two qualifier Megan McKernan. That contest turned out to be the main event.

"Our 5.377 and my .017 light would've beat 9 out of the 11 other cars that round, including race winner Chris Demke and defending National champion Duane Shields," added Perkins. Unfortunately, neither of those competitors were in the other lane. It was Megan McKernan who produced the low ET and the top speed of the race up to that point against us. (5.306 @271.02)

Not a knockout punch, but Perkins was out of the game for the weekend. Cody and the 801 Racing Team is back in training for their next fight. With 801 Racing's Revvolution Oil with CleanBoost Technology in their corner, the team is ready for a prize winning fight.

Perkins is Ready for Season Opening Test at Pomona

Pomona, Ca -- Cody Perkins comes to the Winternationals prepared to make the grade. Last year's season ending event did not exactly go as planned. The images of a wild ride filled with smoke and a banged up race car were replayed all winter long. Now that the 2012 NHRA season is here, Perkins is looking to create new memories from the Auto Club Raceway.

"The last time we were here at Pomona there was something exciting every time down the track," said Perkins. "We never had a boring run."

Cody and the 801 Racing Team are now looking for boring, as in boringly consistent quick trips down the quarter mile. The off season has allowed time to review and sharpen the lesson plan. They have studied last year's data, and are ready for the first exam of the new racing season.

Perkins Wild Ride(s) in Pomona

Pomona, Ca. -- The concept of Drag Racing is simple. Run your car in a straight line as fast as you can to the finish. Cody Perkins found out at the 47th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals that it is never dull. Th 801 Racing sponsored Top Alcohol Dragster provided a few memorable trips down the quarter mile.

"There was something exciting every time down the track," said Perkins. "We never had a boring run."

The first few qualifying attempts gave Perkins a great view of the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona. The idea of a straight line was somewhat lost during these sessions. It wasn't until the second qualifying round on Friday that the power of the 801 Racing Dragster was unleashed. A blistering 5.328 elapsed time at 265 miles per hour propelled Perkins to the number seven slot. The run was quite the thrill ride for Perkins because when the parachutes hit, one of the front tires blew.

"We took advantage of the conditions," added Perkins. "The thing that really excited us is that the car had more in it."

That confidence was with Perkins going into eliminations on Saturday. Paired up against the lower qualified car of Chris Demke, the team felt they had the upper hand. Favorable weather conditions didn't alter the tune up. All looked good when Perkins got the starting line advantage. This is when things got interesting. The car smoked the tires and Perkins was not going to let Demke have an easy time of it. Speeding down the track, the car banged the blower. The trauma caused the belt to split into two pieces. It then slapped the injector scoop launching it skyward. Perkins was able to get the car under control by racing was over for the day, and the year.

Never a dull moment, Drag Racing provides fans and drivers a thrill ride. Cody Perkins and his 801 Racing Dragster are sure of that. The last race of the year at Pomona provided a roller coaster ride that should hold Perkins until the 2012 season starts.

Cassie Simonton (TAFC)
Driving for Spiro Kontos' Kon Rodz Racing team, Cassie Simonton went from crew member to driver of the team's Monte Carlo flopper within two years. Simonton started off 2011 with a career-best 5.56 and first round win at the Gatornationals. She impressed at the U.S. Nationals when she took out Jay Payne in the first round with a 5.61.

Brandon Booher (TAD)

Brandon Booher used his consistent blown alcohol-converter combo and quick leaving to his advantage this year. Booher's main highlight of 2011 came at the Norwalk national event, where he reached his first final round in national event competition. A divisional final round at Cordova, semi-final appearance at the U.S. Nationals, and the first 5.3x second run in history round out his top performances in '11. 

Shane Westerfield (TAFC)
With backing from CP-Carrillo, Shane Westerfield's 2011 season also included his first career national event final round appearance, at the Big O Tires Nationals in Vegas. Westerfield also posted consistent performances prior at Seattle, Indy, and Dallas.

Blake Alexander (TAD)

Former Comp Eliminator racer Blake Alexander made his first appearance in TAD at the Winternationals, driving the Larry Miersch-owned Exide A/Fuel Dragster. His first semi-final appearance came at the Houston national event. Along with piloting the dragster, Blake also got his feet wet in Fuel Funny Car, debuting at Reading in Paul Smith's car with backing from event sponsor Auto Plus.

Cody Perkins (TAD)

After racing junior dragsters and making tuning calls on his dad's TAD, Cody Perkins stepped up to driving the Top Alcohol Dragster a few years ago. With support from 801 Racing, Perkins earned his first national event win at Topeka this year. His Utah-based car is a consistent 5.3x blown alcohol player.

Perkins Looks to History for Pomona Finals

Pomona, Ca. -- Cody Perkins and the 801 Racing Team are looking to days gone by for inspiration. The venue is the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona. It is at this track that Perkins ran his career best. A 5.33 elapsed time blast that he would like to improve upon. The motivation is in place and history is on his side.

"Pomona has treated us pretty good," said Perkins. "In fact, when my father first ran Pomona he unloaded the car from the trailer and ran a 5.41. We also have made some big hits here and we are looking forward to the challenge"

Cody and his 801 Racing teammates have been busily preparing their Top Alcohol Dragster for the finals. Parts have been replaced, repaired and smoothed over. They will need everything to be right with the caliber of teams making the trip west for the last race of the year. The team is pumped up and ready to go down the quarter mile.

"We are excited about going to a tough race," added Perkins. "The big teams are here and we want to beat the best. It means much more to run against a stout field."

To accomplish this, Cody has the support team of his Mom, Dad and Grandma. Also making the trip down from Utah is the gang from 801 Racing. They have been pit side lending a helping hand to the team for the last few races.

The final race at Pomona has a storied past of speed and tradition. In his 801 Racing sponsored Dragster, Cody Perkins looks to tap into a bit of history and make this race his career best.

Perkins Goes Broke in Vegas

Las Vegas, NV. -- Going broke in Vegas usually means only one thing. The tables got the best of you, or the one armed bandit kept everything it was given. At the Division 7 race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Cody Perkins may not have lost money at the casinos, but the 801 Racing sponsored Top Alcohol Dragster did break a few parts.

"I think we broke one of everything," said Perkins. "We broke all kinds of parts like heads, belts and even our windshield."

Cody was able to get his 801 Racing dragster into the show in the number six slot with a 5.402. Cold track conditions were not kind to the sun and heat loving team. In the first round against Megan McKernan, Perkins was first off the line but the fun ended there.

"I hate cold tracks," added Perkins. "We know how to run in the heat, but when we have cool conditions like this, it is really hard for us to get down the track. I am considering bringing someone in next year to do a sun dance."

Whereas Gambling and losing money go hand in hand, cold racetracks and breaking parts also seem to be related. Cody Perkins and his 801 Racing Team have put things back together and are now heading to the season finale in Pomona. There they will be betting on the warm weather to keep them from going completely broke.

Perkins Looks to Step Up to the Plate for Divisional Race

Las Vegas, NV. -- Cody Perkins and his 801 Racing sponsored Dragster are looking for some home track advantage for this weekend's Division 7 race. Even though the Perkins Team is from Utah, they consider the Las Vegas Motor Speedway their home track. The previous weekend's National event provided the necessary background information needed to go faster.

"We are going to get after it a little harder for the divisional," quoted Perkins. "Low 30's is the goal, if we tickle it just right. We can step on it with confidence and we want to go fast."

The advantage of having a divisional race at the same track as the previous weekend is that the information obtained is still relevant. The disadvantage is that many other Alcohol teams stuck around with similar thoughts.

"Once again it will be a stout field," added Perkins. "They also have more run data, so it's up to us to step up."

The season is coming to an end, and the Las Vegas divisional race is a great place to tie together lessons learned throughout the year. Not quite a final exam, that awaits the following weekend in Pomona. This race is all about defending home plate, and Perkins and the 801 Racing Team are planning on serving up a big heaping portion of home cooking.

Second Round Exit Makes Perkins More Determined to Finish Strong

Las Vegas, NV. -- Cody Perkins and the 801 Racing Team are looking to finish up the year strong after going as far as the second round at the Big O Tires Nationals this past weekend. The team missed the first round of qualifying when it was discovered that they had broken the chassis in transit.

"We got behind the 8 ball to start, but we worked together and got it fixed," said Perkins. "The key to going rounds is making runs when the conditions are good."

Fortunately there were no other issues or breakage all weekend. Perkins later qualified in the number ten spot with a 5.400 elapsed time at 260.11 miles per hour. In the first round, Cody and the 801 Racing Dragster defeated Aaron Tatum with a stellar 5.362@264.44. Tatum is a top 10 point player and it was a rematch of the Topeka final. In Sunday's second round, Chase Copeland was treated to a .006 light by Cody. The 801 Racing Dragster was in the lead to about the thousand foot mark when Copeland's top end charge gave him the win. The day of racing was over, but there was a great deal to be happy about.

The weekend's big winners were Karin Roberts and Teresa Mora. They both won tickets to the race on 801 Racing's Facebook giveaways page. They were also treated to a tour of the pits, a close-up view of Cody's dragster and free 801 Racing T-shirts.

"It was great to meet Karin and Teresa, as well as everyone else who stopped by our pits," added Perkins. "We were happy with the data, and we are looking forward to getting back out there. We have a good start on next weekend's Division 7 race"

It's All Good for Cody Perkins in Vegas

Las Vegas, NV. - Cody Perkins and the 801 Racing Team are planning for a good time in Vegas this weekend. The town itself is known to be exciting and a bit wild. This weekend, the good times will be down the track, and in the pits.

The party starts with the debut of Perkins' new 801 Racing firesuit and helmet. The crew also will be sporting new crew shirts to keep it going all weekend. The gang from 801 Racing will also be there in support of their new runway model. Not all glitz and glam, the race is where Perkins really wants to shine.

"We know our car will run competitive," said Perkins. "The trailer is packed full of all our good stuff. We have worked long and hard to make the good times come to us."

The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is know as a great track with traction galore. It can also be rough on motors. The last time Perkins raced here, a small piece of aluminum from the tank plugged a nozzle. The team ended up having to build three motors out of two. This year the plan is to keep it all together.

"The track is so awesome," added Perkins. "We run stuff hard here and the track will take all you can give it. We plan on going rounds without having to totally rebuild it every run."

Once again Perkins will be supported by his Mom, Dad, Grandmother, and even the dogs. They are planning on having a family party and with the group from 801 Racing along for the ride, the good times will roll for Cody Perkins in Vegas.

Two Rounds of Racing Sends Perkins Back to School

BRAINERD, Minn. - Cody Perkins and the 801 Racing Team’s first trip to Minnesota was an education. The valuable lesson they learned  at the Lucas Oil Nationals is that they like racing in Minnesota, but next time they want to go a few more rounds.

The learning process started out during Friday’s opening qualifying session. Cody and his 801 Racing sponsored Top Alcohol Dragster powered down the drag strip to a 5.41 elapsed time at 263.41 mph. This run ended up putting Perkins in the eighth qualifying position going into round one Saturday night.

Perkins’ first round opponent, Scott Palmer, was the recipient of the knowledge Perkins’s team garnered from a late night complete teardown of the motor. A 5.332 at 263.00 was strapped on Palmer, and it was an A+ run for Perkins. After the run, the team treated it as “business as usual.”

“There was no horn honking when the crew came to pick me up,” stated Perkins. “I asked what it ran and when they told me a 5.33, I was so pumped!”

That emotion followed Perkins into the second round where he faced Chase Copeland. Perkins got off the line first, and was on an expected 5.30 run. Around 300 feet the motor put a hole out, and Perkins had to travel the rest of the way on seven cylinders. He was leading the race to the 1300 foot mark when Copeland moved ahead for the win. Perkins’ seven cylinder run still produced a 5.36, but class was over for the day.

“We run such high valve spring pressures that it’s tough to keep them together sometimes,” quoted Perkins. “Finding the tune-up to keep the parts happy for five seconds is not an easy thing.’

The team is returning to Utah to begin research and development to find a way to keep those parts “happy.” It’s this educational experience that will move drag racing and Cody Perkins to the head of the class.

Perkins Looks to Make Brainerd Memorable

BRAINERD, Minn. - It has been said travel broadens the mind. Cody Perkins and his 801 Racing Top Alcohol Dragster want to do more than just feed their intellect, they want to have their minds “blown.” This is why the team is traveling to the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway. The venue has a reputation as being a place that’s a little on the wild side. 

“I have always heard that it was a fun race,” said Perkins. “I might head over to the Zoo and see what it’s all about, but we are here to race. The field at Brainerd is full of heavy hitters. It is going to be tough, and we want to step up and bring our best effort.”  To do this, Perkins is looking to the past.

“We are looking to build off the string of 5.30’s we ran off, said Perkins. “We have a consistent car, now all we have to do is keep it up. With a little luck, we will be there on Sunday making some noise.”

Little Issues Limit Perkins to Semi-Final Finish in Seattle

Kent, Wash.  - Cody Perkins had a few issues this last weekend at the O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Northwest Nationals in Seattle. The issue he is most proud of was running his career best time of 5.326 @ 264.86. The other little issues would have more of an effect on his plans to win the race.

It was during Friday’s qualifying that Perkins, piloting his 801 Racing Dragster, ran his big number to put him in the number three qualifying position. The whole team was excited with the 5.326 run and wanted more. 

“I really wanted to run a twenty, said Perkins. “We were comfortable with our set-up and we were ready to set it on kill”

Unfortunately, the third qualifying session on Saturday was cancelled due to the small car count and other conditions. Cody and the team were really looking forward to the opportunity to step up their game and go for the top qualifying spot. They would have to wait another day to go down the track.

On Sunday, during first round action, Cody got out of the gate first with a .018 light and took the win with a stellar 5.336@ 263.77 to beat James Butler. The 801 Racing team was fired up and looking forward to another round. This was when the first little issue was noticed. A spark plug tube had come loose. It was not a big deal because it had happened right at the end of the run. The team moved forward and prepared for their next round.

In the semi-finals, Cody faced Joey Severance. This was when that little issue from the last round popped up. The spark plug tube came loose again this time earlier in the run and caused some loss of traction. Cody gave it all he could, but Severance took the win light. On the bright side, the engine was fine, just a little dirty.

“I hate losing, said Perkins. “In fact, I’m not a good loser, but I’m happy for Joey since he went on to win the race.”

The semi-final loss spelled the end of the weekend for the 801 Racing Dragster, but Cody and his family will deal with those issues for their next race in Brainerd, MN.  Cody will be taking a little chip on his shoulder to the Minnesota race, and is planning on giving the other teams some issues.

Perkins and 801 Racing Looking to Heat up Seattle

Kent, Wash, - Cody Perkins and his 801 Racing Top Alcohol Dragster are not worried about a heat wave this weekend, in fact, they are counting on it. Hot track temperatures, heated rivals, and giving a scorching show for the fans is all part of the plan.

"Hot and slick is our kind of track," said Perkins. "The hotter it gets - the better. Earlier in the year, we ran a 5.38 in Topeka on a 130 degree track, so we are pumped up for this."

The Top Alcohol Dragster class at Pacific Raceways is also going to be tricky. A smaller entry list means the 801 Racing team will have to be on their game to advance come elimination time.

"It's a stout field," said Perkins. "Its going to be tough to just get out of the first round."

Perkins knows about working with tough conditions. While prepping the car for this race, he spent five straight hours cutting Aluminum and Magnesium while working on engine components. He was covered from head to toe in bits of metal. Changing a flat tire on the team camper on the way to the race was another "dirty job".

"The boys from 801 Racing saw me changing the tire by the side of the road and stopped by to see what was going on," said Perkins. The Utah based Solid Fuel Technology Company bosses are attending their first major event this weekend and are looking forward to seeing their car and driver run hot tires down the track.

Cody Perkins plans on bringing the heat, and if all goes as planned, the heat will be on everyone else's mind.
