Return to Vegas has Demke doing Double Duty

Courtesy of THR5 Communications

Las Vegas, NV - Sherriff Chris Demke is on the case - fear not racing fans. The investigation resumes at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend where Demke and his Deputy's are looking to close two seperate cases. First up is the search for a litter bug and a Regional title. Somehow a scrap of paper interfered with the timing lights during last weekend's Regional event making it necessary to re-run the finals. The second case involves another National Event win. Both cases involve procuring a certain statuette named Wally.

"We are returning to the badlands of Las Vegas to take care of some unfinished business," said Sherriff Demke. "The posse is busy preparing my mount, and I am looking forward to finishing what I started last week."

The case file shows that during last weekend's Vegas Regional event final, there was a timing light malfunction at the finish line. Demke and Jim Whiteley were blazing down the quarter mile with Demke leading the race. Just as the cars were approaching the finish line, a piece of paper tripped the lights. There was no way for NHRA to determine the winner. So on Saturday during the third round of qualifying, Demke and Whiteley will match up to determine the winner of the Regional Crown. Litterbugs are not invited to this round.

"It's going to be tough to be Whiteley twice in one week," said Demke. "We have the confidence of two straight National Event wins behind us."

The second order of business on Sherriff Demke's hit list is to capture the SummitRacing.com event win. This workload involves qualifying well, going rounds, and overcoming the tricky weather and track conditions. Having fresh run data from the track is a gold mine. Luckily for those downwind of the Peen Rite pits, Demke's posse were not sitting around the campfire eating beans. Instead they have been fine tuning the Peen Rite/801 Racing Dragster. Crew Chief Jerry Maddern, Kevin Watson, Mike Demke, Joe Cole, Ronald Mann, and little cow poke Adam Rhoades have Demke's eight-shooter ready to fire down the quarter mile. The team stopped by the general store and picked up some 801 Racing 70W Oil, along with a few aluminum tidbits. With supplies in hand, Sherriff Chris Demke and his Deputy's are on patrol, and closing in on their prey.

All Systems Go for Greg Hunter

Courtesy of NVW Motorsports Promotion

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Top Alcohol Dragster rookie Greg Hunter is ready to compete with the best of the class in the coming weeks. Hunter will finalize licensing procedures in the ExactAir blown alcohol dragster owned by Kenny Gilmour. He plans to wrap up the requirements to earn his TAD license this weekend at the Division 7 race at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

"I can't wait to receive my license so I can get out there and compete," said Hunter. "Kenny Gilmour and the ExactAir team got to work on the car after our last outing in Phoenix, fine tuning the car. Now it's all systems go for Las Vegas."

The former TAFC pilot will be testing in the days leading up to the divisional event, with hopes to fulfill the requirements. If the requirements are not met, the testing and licensing passes will continue in the event. In that case, Hunter's TAD competition debut will take place at the SummitRacing.com Nationals in Las Vegas, March 30-April 1. Greg will be working with Dycor Technologies to promote their SixPAC product.

"Dycor is a company that ExactAir is familiar with, as they distribute their line of products. The SixPAC product is for environment monitoring and compressor control. We're excited to introduce them to the high-powered world of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series!" Greg claimed.

Greg Hunter and the ExactAir Compliance Systems/Kenny Gilmour Motorsports Top Alcohol Dragster team will take to the track at this weekend's LODRS Division 7 race at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, March 23-25. Top Alcohol qualifying will begin at noon local time on Saturday.

Ahten Ready to Put on a Good Show at Phoenix Regionals

Courtesy of THR5 Communications

Phoenix, AZ -- Johhny Ahten is going into show business. This weekend at the opening of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Firebird Raceway, Ahten has added a top hat and cane to his Top Alcohol Dragster act. Not to worry, he will still wear his firesuit and helmet when he is racing. Ahten and his Island Renovations/801 Racing Dragster are ready to put on a show for the fans, and the fellow racers. Welcome my friends to the Nitro show that never ends.

"The Regionals are like a mini national event now," said Ahten. "Instead of just a few cars here, there are Division 7 leaders as well as a few Division 6 runners."

Ahten brings the knowledge and data accumulated a few weeks ago at the Pomona event. Crew chief Al Ahten has the Nitromethane injected tune-up calculated and dialed in. It's up to Johhny Ahten to step into the spotlight and demonstrate what the car is capable of. Every now and again, Ahten's car is prone to attempting a high wire act when it launches the front wheels skyward.

"It's a wild ride to balance the wheelie," added Ahten. "On the rear win it says "Stump Puller," and it has truly earned the nickname."

Riding along with the front wheels in the air are associate sponsors Island Renovations and 801 Racing 70Wt Oil with CleanBoost Technology. Also hanging on for dear life are NGK sparkplugs, FireIce, Stith Printing, and Hedman Hedders.

Johhny Ahten is looking forward to donning his top hat and cane (firesuit and helmet), entering the spotlight, and running the show of shows. Most of all, Ahten wants to show his wheelie bars to a few fellow racers while traveling down the track.

Demke Brings the Big Mo to Phoenix Regionals

Courtesy of THR5 Communications

Phoenix, AZ -- Momentum is defined as a strength or force gained by motion or by a series of events. After taking the Top Alcohol Dragster win in Pomona, Chris Demke and his Peen Rite Team are bringing that momentum into the Regional race at Firebird Raceway this weekend. The Regional event in Phoenix is the first in the newly formed racing series that replaced the divisional system.

"It allows us to go to more national events, which is good for us," said Demke. "It also means more competitors."

The Regional race will have the heavy hitters in attendance. That sits fine with the Maddern Racing team, as they won here from 2004-2006. The car has been serviced and the trailer loaded with more 801 Racing Oil with CleanBoost Technology. After a bit of tire shake, the RacePak computer has a few new connectors. The car is ready to race, and the Peen Rite Team can't wait to get it back in motion.

"I like Phoenix," added Demke. "We have a good tune up for the track and we are ready to see what the car can do."

The Peen Rite/801 Racing Team's momentum on the track has carried over to other areas. The Maddern Racing FaceBook page has gained a few hundred likes since the beginning of the season. The word is getting out there, and the success on the drag strip is the reason. Now it's time to ride the waves of momentum at the desert track in Phoenix. Surf's up!

Greg Hunter to Make TAD Debut

Courtesy of NVW Motorsports Promotion

CHANDLER, Az. -- After a long off-season preparing for 2012, Kenny Gilmour Motorsports is ready to take on the competition with new driver Greg Hunter. ExactAir Compliance Systems will be the primary backer of the Calgary, Alberta, Canada-based Top Alcohol Dragster team.

"I am very excited for the opportunity to join this team," said Hunter. "It is easy to get excited to drive this car by the enthusiasm and desire to win of everyone on this team. They truly have what it takes to field a competitive car and I think I will learn a lot from this group. My wife, Staci, and I are looking forward to the first race in Phoenix!"

Greg Hunter has been racing down the quarter-mile since 1994, first with a stock Ford Mustang GT. His desire for speed moved him up to a Super Comp dragster, which he drove for several years with great success. Hunter attended Frank Hawley's Drag Racing School in 2003, where he earned his Top Alcohol Funny Car license. This prompted Greg to build a Ford Mustang Top Alcohol Funny Car powered by a Boss Ford engine. 2012 is Greg Hunter's first year in Top Alcohol Dragster competition.

Kenny Gilmour is the team owner and crew chief for the 3,000 horsepower blown alcohol dragster. Gilmour has been involved in the sport since the 1960s, racing nitro fuel altereds, dragsters and Pro Comp funny cars. Kenny has also machined and assembled engines for cars on the street and the strip.

Greg Hunter and the ExactAir Top Alcohol Dragster will start off their 2012 quest for the championship at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Division 7 race at Firebird International Raceway, February 25-26. Joining Hunter and Kenny Gilmour will be crew members Cal Bellamy, Gary Savage, John Leach, Dell Lloyd, and Darlene Gilmour.

Perkins Goes Broke in Vegas

Courtesy of THR5 Communications

Las Vegas, NV. -- Going broke in Vegas usually means only one thing. The tables got the best of you, or the one armed bandit kept everything it was given. At the Division 7 race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Cody Perkins may not have lost money at the casinos, but the 801 Racing sponsored Top Alcohol Dragster did break a few parts.

"I think we broke one of everything," said Perkins. "We broke all kinds of parts like heads, belts and even our windshield."

Cody was able to get his 801 Racing dragster into the show in the number six slot with a 5.402. Cold track conditions were not kind to the sun and heat loving team. In the first round against Megan McKernan, Perkins was first off the line but the fun ended there.

"I hate cold tracks," added Perkins. "We know how to run in the heat, but when we have cool conditions like this, it is really hard for us to get down the track. I am considering bringing someone in next year to do a sun dance."

Whereas Gambling and losing money go hand in hand, cold racetracks and breaking parts also seem to be related. Cody Perkins and his 801 Racing Team have put things back together and are now heading to the season finale in Pomona. There they will be betting on the warm weather to keep them from going completely broke.

Ahten Has a Need for Rapid Acceleration and MPH

Courtesy of THR5 Communications

Las Vegas, NV -- Johnny Ahten and his CleanBoost Racing Team are looking forward to this weekend's Division 7 race because they have a need for speed. Video Games, movies and even rock songs all celebrate the passion for moving across the pavement. More than just getting down the track, the goal is to do it in a timely manner.

"We want to haul ass, now more than ever," said Ahten. "We want to get back to what we know how to do."

Planned testing on the Thursday before the divisional is the plan of attack for the CleanBoost Team. During the past weekend's Big O Tire's Nationals Johnny experienced some positive results. Early numbers showed they were one of the quickest cars to the sixty foot mark. Putting that knowledge and information into practice is what has the team motivated.

"Many teams stayed in town after the nationals," added Ahten. "It's a stout field, and the testing will help."

Taking it step by step, Johnny Ahten and the CleanBoost sponsored dragster are looking forward to a feast. The menu will include tasty bits like quickness, speed and the desire to get to the finish line first.

Perkins Looks to Step Up to the Plate for Divisional Race

Courtesy of THR5 Communications

Las Vegas, NV. -- Cody Perkins and his 801 Racing sponsored Dragster are looking for some home track advantage for this weekend's Division 7 race. Even though the Perkins Team is from Utah, they consider the Las Vegas Motor Speedway their home track. The previous weekend's National event provided the necessary background information needed to go faster.

"We are going to get after it a little harder for the divisional," quoted Perkins. "Low 30's is the goal, if we tickle it just right. We can step on it with confidence and we want to go fast."

The advantage of having a divisional race at the same track as the previous weekend is that the information obtained is still relevant. The disadvantage is that many other Alcohol teams stuck around with similar thoughts.

"Once again it will be a stout field," added Perkins. "They also have more run data, so it's up to us to step up."

The season is coming to an end, and the Las Vegas divisional race is a great place to tie together lessons learned throughout the year. Not quite a final exam, that awaits the following weekend in Pomona. This race is all about defending home plate, and Perkins and the 801 Racing Team are planning on serving up a big heaping portion of home cooking.

Chris Demke and Maddern Racing Win Vegas

Courtesy of Nancy Matter

Las Vegas, Nv -- Chris Demke, driver of the Maddern Racing Top Alcohol Dragster finished off their weekend in the Winner's circle last weekend at the 11th Annual BIG O Tires NHRA National Event in Las Vegas. This marks the teams 2nd National event win in 2012 and their 4th Event Win for the year.

"Since we are in the running for the Division 7 Lucas Oil Top Alcohol Dragster Championship" noted Demke, "we really wanted to utilize the National Event for testing to make sure the dragster was ready for the this weekends upcoming event.

"We were consistent all weekend, no tire shake, no carnage, just good passes every lap. We ran a softer tune up on Friday for the first two qualifiers just to make sure we had everything back in order after running Reynolds, Georgia a few weeks before. Saturday, we tuned her up and began eliminations from the 4th qualifying position.

"Everything just came together in the time that we needed it to, good performance, good team work, and I was on my game driving. It's what we all strive for and it's a great feeling to have earned another win at the end of the 2012 Season."

The Peen Rite/Clean Boost Performance Oil Team remains in the fifth position within the Lucas Oil National Championship Points.
